  • Going from $A1 to $8F on a 1227730

I've been searching and searching and can't find a straight answer to this question. Do I need to repin anything to go from A1 mask to 8F with a 1227730 in a J-body? I think the stock TGPs used different connectors and wiring only because of the underhood 1227727 ecm. Also, do I need to change the memcal to go with 8F? If I can switch to 8F with just a 2-bar MAP sensor and a PROM (that I have burned myself) then life is stupendous! Please tell me it is so

    Because I know you're gonna ask, I'm putting a Holset HX35 on a just-broken-in GM Goodwrench 3.1 LHO with a Melling MTC-5 cam (204/214 @ .050"). Super-sleeper 94 Cavalier RS grandma car!!

BTW, you guys seem to have an awesome forum with lots of helpful members, which is why I joined.

You should only need the chip or bin change and MAP sensor swap, that's all I used and once Code59 is figured out completely for the direct ignition system a bin, MAP sensor and 1 wire relocation should be the only changes necessary.

Yep.. all you need is to swap to the 2 bar map and your good. There was some noise about swapping wires around for the IAC, but that is not required.

If you want to have a proper limp home mode you will want a TGP MEMCAL. I'm trying to locate another TGP MEMCAL for an ECM swap I'm doing for a friend, going from '7148 ($31) to '7730 ($59). It will work with the original MEMCAL, since the cylinder select is correct, which is most important, just LHM won't work properly. Ask me how I know.

$59 is figured out for DIS applications, has been a couple years now.

Awesome, thanks guys! That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Too bad about the limp home mode but my car has never needed it in all its 292,000 km
