the truck: 1987 GMC s15.
currently, ive converted it from the origonal automatic wit the speedo driven, in cluster, VSS to an 89 5 speed trans. no cable, hence no currently operable VSS, and a check engine light. the VSS in the trans works, and is currently running my autometer electric speedo. i was wondering if i could use the VSS signal from the trans and splice it into the wiring from the origonal VSS, thereby turning off my check engine light. if i do this, do i keep the buffer, or delete it entirely. lastly, what would the wiring be? the autometer requires one lead o the VSS to go to ground, and the other is the signal wire.
the other series of questions i have relate to the PCM. ive heard that the 87 PCM is a little funky on the tuning. the 92 i stripped the tranny from seemed to be a lot stronger than my 87, even being in worse shape with more miles and les mods. i was wondering if it could be in the PCM. if so, can i use the 92 PCM on my 87? any other wiring issues etc?
thanks for any help i can get.
