  • 3400/3.1 hybrid turbo tuning

I've been reading alot about tuning but still not finding the information I need. I just got idle and 1st-3rd gear datalogs. its showing a little knock retard in 3rd gear and AFR is far from tuned.

I'm not really sure where to begin so if someone can give me a good link or take a look at these datalogs I would really appreciate it.

car is a 94 cavalier 3400/3.1 hybrid turbo at 8psi

What chip are you starting out with? A TGP patched chip from mars_man?

    Idle data looks great.

The other log doesn't look too terrible either. Not sure why you got some knock in 3rd. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Get some more logs & see if it always happens. No knock event was registered & it wasn't shooting lean, so I wouldn't worry.

The wideband O2 data sticks pretty close to the target A/F ratio until about 5500rpm, then it starts to register a tad richer than what it was shooting for. What do your 2 main VE tables look like?

Looks like you hit 10psi of boost at the top of 3rd gear.

I just finally got a Wide Band & am hoping to get ahold of the modified regular $A1 so I can log WB through tunerpro as well...

Lots of fuel definately had to be pulled out from the BPC EGR table to run those 30# injectors.

You could probably pull 5% (to start) out of the 5600 + cells in the Fuel VE % vs RPM table & see how that affects the air fuel ratio up there.

Do you have the main 3D fuel table available? I don't see it in your list.

Are you having any problems with how the car is running? Since everything looks great at idle & pretty good at WOT, are you having part throttle or cruise issues?

It looks like mars did a pretty good job with that chip

Theres another table I forgot to post called "FUEL BP VE vs. RPM & MAP" which looks like the amount of fuel according to RPM and boost. so isnt that actually the one I should be tuning?

          heres a few more screenshots

That first table is the 3D one I mentioned. Those 2 tables are added together.

In the regular $A1 code, that 3D table only goes to 4000rpm! Wish it went to 6k like yours does.

Basically if you just modify the VE vs RPM table, it will affect that value no matter what the engine load, but tuning the VS RPM & MAP will only affect that RPM at that load.

Most likely you'll only be seeing that RPM at full throttle, so you could probably just change the 2D table. But I guess then if you up your boost, it might throw it off...

What kPa is that spike at? 125? Seems kinda weird that it would spike there & then drop off. I think the whole upper end of that table is probably off, but it is just that most of it is never hit, since you don't hit those high RPM's at lower boost.

The turbo adds so many fun extra variables to the tuning

ok thats exactly what I was thinking

unfortunately my WB doesnt seem to be working anymore though

hopefully they will RMA it. at least I got some logs to go by for now.

You have the innovate unit? I saw a lot of touble with the LC-1 on their forums, so I opted not to buy from them.

ya, im not sure if its the controller or the sensor. however the light doesnt even come on when I have the sensor unplugged...ive heard they replace them even if its out of the warranty period though *crosses fingers*

I should have hooked it up earlier but thats what I get for being lazy lol. its just been sitting around for a couple months
