i have sitting on my desk a 7730 ecm from a 91 z24 3.1L 5 speed. cool thing since my manual tranny car is getting a 3.1L. UNCOOL thing is this extra yellow connector... if you have a 3.1 stick J-body, can you please check and see if the yellow connector is used.

umm.. yea, it's used... I don't know what you're comparing it to, but the plugs probably won't be plug and play. At the very least you'd need to repin the connectors. The pins slide out with a paperclip poked in the holes next to them.Okay now, that's enough of that.

the 7302 ecm that you have uses 2 bigger plugs. the newer 7730 uses the 3 smaller plugs. basicly what you need to do is repin the harness for the 7730 plugs to make anything work. then you will need to wire in a map sensor and ditch the maf.
if you are going to run a 3.1l with the dis, your best bet is to grab a wiring harness from a 90 cavy, and it should plug right into everything without any issues. you wont have to lengthen wiring or add things in.

i'll have to look under my hood again. the plugs are physicaly the same size when i stack the ecms together. isnt there the under hood harness that plugs to the firewall and a smaller one from the firewall to the ecm? i just need a donor. and i let one go for $450, looked like a 88-90 z24... just a few weeks back.If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

The two connectors on your ecm are the same as the two on the 7730. however the pinout is COMPLETLY DIFFERENT!!! Except for the power and ground, they kept those the same. the rest is almost completly different.
You can get the yellow plug for the 7730, de pin it, and move all the appropriate wires around to it and have it run. Just be very cautious of what the old ECM controlled and weather or not those items are to be controlled by the 7730. Im not sure what your old ECM controlled, but the 7730 expects... MAT MAP TPS *EGR* CTS CCP DIS 16K PPM input 4K PPM Output, and it wants to control your fan, though you don't need it to.
The EGR usually is different from one computer type to the next, that can be easily remedied, either add the wires, change the wires purposes, and convert the EGR, or cheat and get rid of it.

yeah noticed the wires are all different in the book i have. im going to keep the old ecm in till i find a donor for a harness and such. right now im going to switch back to the iron heads and intake on my newer block just to get it in and running (most likely pretty crapily) for summer. once i figure out what im going to do tunning wise i'll decide what ecm and top end to go with.
i was hoping the yellow plug was something for abs, vats, instrument cluster. something non suportive of the engine. If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

and they say beer ruins your brain...
after few smirnoffs i got to thinking my failed monsoon amp attempt used a 32 pin connector. a few cuts and some trimming with a knife to remove a few tabs (i know, knives plus beer, that must be the brain dead part ) and that sucker fit into the yellow port on the 7730 ecm. even the the snap clicked into place like it was supposed to be there.
looks like i might get my garage ornament into the car after all.If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.
