Bolted a T5 behind a '99 3400 from a GrandAm. I need to aquire a way to restore my Vehicle Speed Sensor input. Anybody run across a way to hook up a VSS on a RWD 5-Speed transmission? The Trannys' from an '88 camaro...so it doesn't have VSS capability internally, at least I don't think it does. I might be able to fab a sensor to the tailshaft, and build a reluctor ring that would go on the driveshaft, but I don't know how many teeth were on the one in the original car. Anybody know the specs on that system?

RE: VSS input...Need Aftermarket Set-Up ?
The speed sensors at the front wheels are processed thru the ABS module for use with ABS and Traction Control. It may be a good idea to check the voltage needed by that sensor to make sure you don't burn it up. The Vehicle Speed Sensor originally in the tranny is sourced from the PCM, and is 5V. The ones at the wheels get they're power from the ABS and may be 12V. 5V supplied to a sensor that needs 12V may not do the trick. My problem isn't the sensor, it's the tooth count. I am going to purchase an original VSS sensor for the donor car, that way, I know I'm re-creating the same signal using the same sensor. But No-One on earth seems to know how many teeth were on the reluctor ring. According to the VIN#, the option code for the tranny is MN5 w/ 3:05 ratio. I have heard that it's a 4t60e, and I've heard getrag287. Nobody seems to know at the five dealerships around here. I guess the engineer who made the damn thing died and took everthing to the grave with him.
