    RE: laptop tuning help

i personaly built my own cable. it was pretty easy and cost about $10. i use win aldl for data readout, so far its the only program i have got working for my ecm (i have a 160 baud ecm, seems most programs only like to run 8192 baud). there are some good programs out there, like carbytes and efi live.

as for tuning, that requires some hardware, knoledge, and pacients. i havent looks that far into tuning yet, so i am still learning a lot.

      RE: laptop tuning help

thanks for the info, i am willing to buy a cable and sofware. so any recomendations will be great. andas for free software, where can i download it? and can i tune the car without taking out the computer or the chip? i dont know much about tuning cars on the computer, but i used to program in school. thanks

I made my own cable as well, do a search on google for "MAX232 ALDL"

If you want to buy one pre-made, Mastach (spelling)? sells one, and it works very well I have been told my more than a few people.

        Software :

        EFILIVE
        Freescan

are 2 free ones that I can think of.

THey sell the cable for 50 and 30 (80 total, you need the OBD1 connector and the USB to ALDL adapter piece). For software, gmpcm has the complete DF code layout in it though I believe some of the settings are inaccurate on calculations. I was supposed to help correct it but just haven't had the patience or time to do it.

moates also has other chips and boards and such that are useful. They also have the chip burner that works off USB.

Thanks alot Ben, i really appreciate it. by the way how much do you charge to change a performance chip that i just got you a few months ago? it was for my brothers automatic, but i need it changed for a 5 speed and a few different mods( which are probablynot going to affect anything) thanks

Just send it back and tell me what you want done. If its an auto DOHC to manual DOHC chip, thats free. if its w-body to w-body, its pretty much free. If its L body to W body, I charge 50 bucks.

Also, I need to know what mods as some do require custom tuning but it sounds like you are going to cover that yourself.

well i doubt i will be covering that myself, i have zero experience with computer tuning cars. i just would like to get in some practice and eventually do my own but that probably wont be for a few years. (unless its easy, but i doubt it is) so i mostly want the cables to read trouble codes and just screw around with tuning.

Modem? I don't know of anything that works with the 95 flash computers but that doesn't mean there is nothing out there.
