  • Newest ECM venture...

Well, I finally got my newest ECM venture in the mail yesterday...

Whats so special, you ask? Well, this is an ECM out of a 1995 Buick Century, with a 3100SFI AND a removable PROM. Oh yeah, good times! The chip is heading to Ben this week so he can see if its possible to read and interpret the code. After looking at the wiring diagrams, it might be an interesting swap... everything is pretty much the same (even the 4T60E tranny controls! ) except that it is MAF without a MAP. Yeah, that was interesting when I saw that. So I'll probably have to add a MAF. But hey, if it allows for quick and easy (relatively) programming for a 3100SFI, I'm willing to do what I need to. I'll keep everyone updated as to what we find out...

Nope... we don't have the code mask , therefore we can't (as of right now) modify the code. I code still swap it in and everything should work just fine. I just haven't had any time recently. Maybe in the next year I'll have a chance to mess with it more.

Now let me ask an interesting question. Did the 95 Buick come out with a 3.4? If so, what about the PCM? Removable PROM? I already have MAF, so that would be a mute point.

The 3400 came out in 96, and are all OBD2 flash. The 3.4 iron heads won't help out at all. The memcal A body gen 3 motors are all 3100.

Well I have a memcal from said car but a 94. Its a BMAD code. The sticker on the chip reads 4311 1619 0604 on the memcal face is BMAD 1620 8582. Its off a 16196387 ecm. I too was supprised to see no map sensor on the car. It has a similar TB/mas sensor setup as the 3300/3800s. It prob is a 3.3/3.8 code moded for 3100. If you want I can email you the .bin file to see some differences between the two...prob plot some timming tables, or what not. The code is huge (32K)! Its a 27C256 chip.

I just noticed on the TunerCat site that this ECU is supported!!! The mask is $1FA . I may have to get one of these bad boys to use instead of the 7730 ECU for my upcoming swap. SFI would be nice for rock crawling!

I just purchased one of these on Ebay for less than it would have cost to pull one at my local boneyard. It was a lot less work too!

Does anyone have Tunercat? I'd imagine that this would be a pretty painless swap for the manual transmission or non computer controlled auto crowd. Initial programming would be to just shut off VATS if it's active and turn off the EGR. For my '02 3100, if I put in some pre 00 injectors and an FPR, it would probably run pretty darned good without any tuning!

I'm going to have to go to a boneyard and yank a wiring harness for one which won't be fun. I'll also grab a MAF sensor off of one of these vehicles.

This was good timing - shortly before my engine swap. SFI will be very nice. Especially nice with fuel prices the way that they are.

I did some poking around at the junkyard yesterday and noticed a problem with this setup that will make it difficult for a RWD setup. I grabbed a picture from someone's cardomain site to show what I'm talking about:

My main concern is the wierd throttle body with the MAF attached. It looks like I'll have to grab this throttle body and mount it to my '02 intake to get this to work. This thing sticks way the heck out there and looks like it would bump into the radiator on a vehicle mounted in RWD.

Why not just use a regular MAF and TB instead of the integrated one?
