  • car acting stupid

ok to start off with a couple weeks ago my car started acting stupid like it would almost die out on me when i stepped on the brakes or put any electrical load on it so thinking it was the battery i swapped it out with a brand new one that seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks the yesterday driving down a major road i stepped on the brakes and my car almost shut off on me it killed it enough to reset the radio and everything. today it did the same thing except i didnt hit the brakes im just driving along and the speedometer starts jumping all over the place hit the gas it goes back to normal. after this happened i decided to go back home before i killed someone or myself on the way home i hit the directional so i could turn the car almost dies shut the siganl off its fine. what could be causing this bad ground or a shitty computer any help is appreciated

If your gauges are moving around, I would DEFINATELY change the alt. The day my alt when bad, every gauge my car has started acting all funny. The rpm gauge was the worst.

Sounds like alternator issues to me. An IAC isn't gonna kill the power and make your gauges act stupid.

What brand is it? Ive seen them go bad in weeks. AC delco or nothing in my book, mostly cause my alt is under my motor. It could be a ground wire somewhere though, or a poor connection at the alt/starter/battery.

think i found the problem the big bolt on the bottom of the alternator was half hanging out and the nut was missing and the alt was loose

Napa should be good, but ive never used one. If the alt was loose and the belt was slipping on it, then thats gonna be the same as a bad alt:P Glad you found the problem (hopefully).

glad you said something about the alternator cause i would have never checked it that couls be why it only happened when i stepped on the brakes must have shifted the engine enought to make the belt slip. thanks for the help you guys saved me from tearing it apart and pissing a day away trying to find the problem hopefully this solved it now i just gotta go get some wheel bearings and ill be all set for a litlle while.
