Howdy all. I made my ALDL cable and downloaded Andy Whittaker's FreeScan and all seems to be AOK with one exception...the data stream plagued with 3-5 second pauses. Right now I get a steady stream of dat afor a bout a second, then nothing for about 3-5 seconds. I have tried to change the "Communications with ECU" "mS Delay setting to all options from 1-100 and some even larger with no change in behavior.

Anyone else having the same problem and a suggestion to fix it?

I am using this on my 93 Z34 all stock components.

I have been told that the cable that the schematic is for on Andy's site is not the best cable for our cars, and gets quite picky most of the time. The best one would be the one that uses the MAX232 chip. Here is the site you can get info and a schematic from:

Does your cable use the cig lighter plug in? If not that very well could be your issue. I havent seen a DOHC car yet that didnt need it plugged in for power.

If he has the 2 transistor one (the schematic on Andy's site) it doesn't have a cig. lighter cord. I never added that one to the one that I made, but maybe I should dig it out, do it, and try it. Only problem is some jackass has my soldering iron, lol.

I bought a USB ALDL cable from somewhere and it still has the disconnecting problems as well. The voltage tends to fluctuate on some DOHC's quite badly and this downward voltage spike will make it pause or disconenct.

I have the 2 transistor interface from Andy's site with the cig lighter plug. Maybe Ill gather the stuff and make the MAX232 chip one and see if that makes a difference.

On another note..does anyoen have a def file for Freescan that can be used on 3.1 in an 86 Regal?

an 86 regal with a 3.1? Never heard of it, i thought they were RWD with V8s or the 4.3.

I dont know of any other files for freescan than what comes with it either.

Regals weren't FWD til '88. So I'm guessing you have the year wrong too?
