  • vss code 5 speed

i just bought a 90 z24 and changed the engine. While i was taking it apart i noticed a plug that wasnt attached. when i got it back together i keep getting a 24 code for the vss. i looked a my unhooked plug and found it to be the plug for vss, or compared to my automatic car. Does a manual even need a vss( no lock converter).

yes it needs a vss, if it didnt, it wouldnt have it. hook it up and you wont have the code anymore.

There is no vss there, when i tore it apart it was unpluged. Upon putting back together I noticed there was no place to plug it into. Thats when I looked at my automatic and figured out what it was supposed to be pluged into.

What your saying is that you ariginaly had a automatic (3spd right). When you swaped engines you went with a 5spd. Now that plug is just hanging..and you wonder if you need it. Well if you want to know what MPH your driving at...then YES you need it. Withiout it...you won't know your speed. The ECM uses it also for highway A/F ratio, Accel/ Decell A/f ratio, top speed limiter, fan turn off mph. The 5spd should have a socket for it. Maybe its missing.

no it always had a five speed, just a blown motor. it just seemed odd to me that there is this plug that was never hooked up and no place to put it. This is my first five speed car, ive had 7 or 8 automatics over the years. So i was trying to figure where it went, if it had a vss, etc... If it was there to hook up i would love to hook it up. Thats the whole problem. now i keep getting this vss code and banging my head. Thanks

what do you mean its not there??? do you mean there is no vss on the tranny??? it is on the back close to the dipstick. there is also a spot for your speedo cable to screw on (in 90, the z24 had an analogue dash with cable drive speedo)
