  • Simple scanning of '93 L32 Camaro

Hi All... new to the site here.

I have a stock 1993 L32 Camaro and want to be able to just monitor the sensors and be able to tell when it is in closed loop.

Because the 93 was OBD 1.5, I wanted to see if anybody had recommendations on software to use for this car, before I possibly head down the wrong path (I heard only TunerPro would work, but am not sure)

This particular car was manufactured in 5/5/93. The PCM is (I believe) numbered 16172693. On this particular '93, the codes CANNOT be flashed using the flashing SES light, as some can be. It has a 12 pin DLC.

The car runs great, but the engine compartment wiring harness is starting to corrode and, and gas milage is about 4 mpg lower than it should be. So I want to get in there and be able to really see if those sensors are all operating properly. (It gets between 14 and 23 mpg). I suspect that the EGR is not getting the proper signals, though it EGR itself seems to check out. It has very good compression, New old stock GM injectors, O2 sensors, temp sensors, but have not ever replaced the MAP, TPS or EGR.

Any help on finding proper softward/definition files would be greatly appreciated as I've never delved into scanning beyond an Innova 3120.

tunerpro is the way to go. the same definition that's used for the 93-95 3100(except A) cars works on the 93-95 3.4 F cars.
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

Need a wiring diagram for any GM car or truck from 82-06(and 07-08 cars)? PM me!

Hey thanks for your reply, Robert. I am seeing your posts all over the place, you really seem to be an expert, especially on these early 4th gen camaros. If you have time... I'll include my 4 questions below....

I didn't see that definition on the tuner pro download page. There is a "1993 F-bodies, 3.4L auto & manual" .ads file. I think you made it. Do you think that would work or should I go search the internet for the one you suggested?

An .ads file is the only file I would need for monitioring, yes? (I'm not looking to do a custom tune, just fix my car) Its my understanding that the .xdf and .bin files are only necessary if your are trying to create new tunes?

I am ordering a cable for my laptop from ALDLcable.com. Do you think there is any advantage of the USB over serial?

I noticed that there is no dashboard already in Tunerpro... Is the idea that everyone makes their own custom dashboards for whatever they want to see?

      Thanks in advance....

assuming you're running tunerpro V4, you'll just need the ADS file.
for tunerpro V5, you'll just need the ADX file.

i have my ADX file that i use almost daily that i could send.

yes, XDF and BIN files are only necessary for editting the calibration, so you won't need them for scanning.

i haven't used a computer with a serial port in MANY years.... i wouldn't know how stable they are.

dashboard: you can make your own or copy a design from somebody else, etc...

My old Sony Vaio laptop uses a serial for TP and it's stable. I use serial because the interface I built for my center console I did not build with a USB interface, just serial. Serial recording/monitoring with TP is so stable I forgot TP was recording once and I shut the car off, went into the library to check out what I needed, got back in the car and started it, opened my laptop and found TP was still going and monitoring and recording live data just fine.
