Alright I ordered the MaStach ALDL diagnostics cable and Im having a hell of a time trying to get it to work on my 89 Chev beretta 3.1L auto.
I obviously cant use diacom because its a serial cable and not a printer port cable. When I try to use freescan I can get it to connect, but whenever I try to use either the 410B (I think) vehicle or the pontiac 3.2 (my engine is listed for both) I get "header not found" or something similar from the ECM. Its becoming a huge pain in my rear.
Anyone have a similar setup and get it to work?
BTW Im using a Dell Inspiron 8500 (or maybe 8600, I forget) P4 2.6ghz with 512megs of ram and 17" display blah blah blah. Is my laptop just too new? When I use the ALDL test program at 9600 baud I can get a Fast test pass, and if I use 8162 baud I can get an extended test pass.
So right now it looks like I can get the laptop to connect, I just cant get the right vehicle definitions in a program thats working for me. Any programs that I CAN get the right definitions for doesnt work worth a damn. Its frustrating.
Anyone have any ideas?
