Okay. I know that my ecu is for roughly 86 to mid 88 2.8 S10 usage, but, I can't find what ASP stands for, and I can't remember if the donor was a manual tranny or not. I believe that the answer lies in the ASP. Any help here, please?

There should be a 4 letter (alphabetical) code on the ECM by the part number. It might not be right after, but it's letters only. If you can't find it on the service tag, you could pull the cover and look on the MEMCAL and find it on a sticker in there. Example, mine in my 92 is BCFA, which is the code mask for the 91-93 3.4 DOHC with a 5 speed transmission. Once you find out your BCC (BroadCast Code, those 4 letters), that will tell you the year range, engine and transmission of the truck that your engine came out of, or in your case, you would find out what transmission it had.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

Thanks for the reply, Pocket-Rocket. Okay, after looking over the ECU case, and not finding anymore alpha-numerics on it, I looked inside for the mentioned sticker, and the sticker on the big chip is marked ARW 0356. Is it possile that this ECU is early enough vintage that it only uses a 3 digit BCC? Here are the rest of the "codes" that I have found so far: on the ECU case, below the serv.no are the following 868121 M513907636 That's all. Does it matter if I run this ECU with a manual tranny if it checks out to be for an auto? I know from personal experience that the old Ford Speed Density system will run that way, just be a little quirky with idle qualities in between shifts.

Thanks for the info, Robertisaar. That helped to clear up the tranny issue ( not that it is going to matter in my overall plan ), so that if I have any shift/ rpm issues, I will have a much better idea of where to start checking into things. Can I still find the manual tranny chip for this thing, IF I end up needing to swap it, or will I be better off trying to find one of the later ECUs', maybe the 7747 model?

Well, the main reason that I am looking at using the 7429 ECU is that I all ready have it. Would the 7747 be a better one to find and use? Those are extremely common aorund, here, but, I don't know if is chipable for the 2.8, even though I understand it to be "universal service", and I have seen them in ALOT of stuff, running 4.3 V6s' up to the 454 V8. Any thoughts on this ECU? I am going to be digging around on the 'net myself and see if chips exsist for the 2.8/7747 ECu setup.
