I would like to have one that I can send commands to the PCM with (like HPT, but I don't want to pay the HPT price). I have an ELM based interface, but it's one way and only reads information from the PCM- I cannot send commands to it, like turn on the fans, raise idle like you can with an HPT. Any ideas, gents?

all OBD2 scanners are "Two way" communications capable, since you have to send commands to the PCM (or other module on the line) to recieve data back.
it's knowing what the commands are is the key...
the easy way to discover those is to hook up a scanner/scan tool that does have those capabilities already, then tap into the circuit AFTER the OBD2 port, setup recording software on the laptop that doesn't have the full featured scanner, then send a command using the full featured one.
then you'll see a string of characters that when sent, will do the exact same thing you commanded on the full-featured one.
otherwise, you would need to pull the BIN, hack through it until you find those commands and go from there. i don't suggest this route.

I bought an ELM based interface for my laptop from China last summer. It cost me around $6 shipped, it just took two weeks to get here.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
