  • Gauges pulsate, radio pops, dash lights dim.....

Yes its me again with this car of mine. Now my rpm gauge will just randomly move all the way to 8000rpm! but the sound of my motor never changes. When it does this, my radio pops through my speakers, my dash lights dim or go out, and if I have my wipers on they stop. I've already put a different alternator on the car thinking that could be the problem. Has anyone else experienced this in a 89 corsica ltz before???? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was something like a bad ground junction. I worked on a 95 Olds 88 that had a bad ground junction once. The guy turned onto a road, went to move his seat (power seats) and the whole car died out. I got it to my house, did some research and found it's a very common problem on those cars. The ground junction was under the carpet on the drivers side on that car. They would retain water under the carpet, and the junction used a plate with fingers sticking off of it that spade connectors would grab a hold of. The water caused the whole thing to corrode up, so I clipped the spade connectors off, cleaned the plate off and soldered each wire directly to it since his harness wouldn't ever have to come apart there again. A few of the wires had even started to melt some from the heat of the bad connection before I got to it. It was an intermittent problem before I found out what was going on, because when I got it home, the car would start and run fine, but some things didn't work, like seats, windows, and maybe the radio. I can't remember everything that didn't work because it's been some time back, but yeah, check your grounds.
