This may seem like a dumb question but... How does the computer on a MPFI know when to fire the even cylinder injectors and when the odd?
I've removed the distributor and can get it back on #1 TDC but can't figure out how to inform the computer which firings are even and odd. Does it figure it out itself by varying the bank being fired? If so how?
This is an engine swap using a camaro 3.1 block and a Fiero injection system. It's got no EGR and no carbon cannister. Headers don't have a crossover until the muffler and therefore the oxygen sensor sees only the exhaust from the even number cylinders. Can't get it to run decent and can't track down if it's a problem with the swap, the new setup of sensors, the wiring, or a computer chip problem.
Help is needed! Thanks
