  • 7730 questions

ok, so i have been convinced that the ECM i need to run for my swap is the 7730. the basic research i have done is that it is much faster, more tunable, and flexible than most the other ECM's that i could use. the motor that i am swapping is a bone stock 3.4 out of a 95 firebird. i hope to retain as much of the stock snsors and such as possible. the motor came with them, ran well, and its paid for. it also came with most of the stock harness, so i have the connectors for those sensors as well.

what im wondering is if the 7730 will be compatible with the sensors i have.
also, what all sensors, etc does the 7730 require? im planning on retaining the DIS, so the list of stuff i know i need to retain is: crank sensor and coil packs, TPS, IAC, water temp, IAT, injectors, O2 sensor. any others? emissions arent required.

what should i get a donor harness out of to make this easier?
and does anyone have a list of what all the other service numbers for the 7730 replacements and the applications i can source this from? i havent found anything other than 3.1 camaros.

    thanks
    Michael

this should help you find the donor cars for ECMs and harnesses...

as far as sensors: they will all work perfectly with a 7730.

Use a harness and ECM from a Lumina - done deal (it uses the 1227727, the '7730's fraternal twin haha). Or you could use a harness from a 90's v6 Cavalier with a '7730.

The f-body 7730 and harness would require a pin change to run the DIS (along with a code mask to match).

ok, the cavalier and sunfire are the same. what years?
the lumina: what years, and what other cars are the same? will the 7727 take the same bins, etc? thanks so far. im still new to the EFI side of things, and am kind of learning my way.

7727 and 7730 are nearly, if not completely, identical on the inside. The difference being that the 7727 is in a waterproof housing and has different connectors.

By 90's cavalier he meant early 90's, up 94. Sunfires didn't exist then, Sunbirds were the Pontiac counterpart of the time.

so i scored a 7727 ands a 7165 today, both with partial harnesses. will these do what i need them to do, and what bin will i need? im running tunerproRT

both of these ECM's came out of a stroker corvette. owner tried both, hated the way the injection ran, and swapped to a carb. so i know im gonna need to start over with the PROM.

a 7165 is a MAF ECM from 1986-1989, the 7727 would have been used from 1990-1991...

you WILL need a PROM from a 660 to run correctly for the knock filter and NETRES.

prom: you'll need one from a 660: preferably a iron head 3.1 since it is the most like a 3.4 and be able to be plugged in.

as for wiring diagram: when you know which mask you want to run, then i'll post the one you'll need.

the easiest/best course would be either 8D or A1, but it's your choice.

ok, so what one will be the easiest for a noobie tuner to work with? ive heard of 8d before, but that really doesnt mean much.

i would say A1 just because i've made a lot of autotuning stuff for it.... but 8D has a bit better fueling and possibly spark tables...

definately going to rock the A1.
i like the concept of autotuning. taking the "moron me" factor out of getting it right.

it's not always the "moron" factor....

sometimes math is just working against you...

which reminds me, i should upload my newest A1 XDF and ADX to mark soon... it has a few more enhancements...
