who has one or knows if it can transfer the BINs it pulls from FLASH PCMs to a computer?

i was playing with a few programs that flash PCMs like the 94-95 LT1s and i was watching the exact commands it sent to set the PCM into the mode to allow it to flash the EEPROMs.

point being: if someone can get the stock BIN off of a 94-95 3100SD PCM this way, the OBD1 or OBD2 conversions could be completely unnecessary.

if the Tech2 can't transfer anything, what kind of wiring setup would be necessary for a laptop to be able to see all of the commands and data that a tech2 sends to the PCM while reading and flashing?

Even if we had a bin, cracking it to see where the addresses for tables and such would be a nightmare unless we had that info... the later is what is lacking IIRC. I looked into this too with the same stuff the LT1 guys use...

it would take time, and lots of it, but reverse-engineering ALL of it is possible. it uses the same processor as the LT1, which is a pair of 68HC11. there are also two flash PROMs soldered onto the PCBs, i imagine it's the same in the LT1.

BTW: i am getting better at hacking through it. i'm not saying i could do the whole thing myself, but there are a few people i can think of that could do quite a bit to get the ball rolling if i couldn't... it's too bad the datastream doesn't push out a PROM ID, that would help tremendously.

        now HERE'S an interesting idea:

that's what gets done to the 94-95 LT1 PCMs if the flash fails.

does anyone happen to have an EEPROM burner that can read those types of PROMs?

here is the socket that gets referenced:

I actually made an adapter several years ago to go from that PROM to a standard PROM to attempt to read the info with the reader I had.

All I did was run a bunch of wires from an adapter similar to what you showed (second link) to a standard chip adapter. And no, nothing came out of it.

i wonder if my BURN2 can read it as a chip it supports instead of finding someone with an EEPROM burner that can play with them...

If someone has a tech2 in the MI area, I'd like to meet up and explore more in-depth Robertissar's initial question. BTW, the answer to the first question is yes, but not alone.

I have a Tech2, but not near you lol.
The Tech2 does NOT pull bin from Pcm, just writes to.

I have been watching the way the Tech2 writes, however, my devices all have a buffer overflow and can not get the whole process.

Hoping with in weeks my new hardware will be ready!!!!!

                      now that i didn't expect....

write commands could still be useful though, and knowing the way that the datastreams work with OBD1, the read command would only be slightly different...

Once I get my hardware and a few OBD2 Pcms under my belt, I will work on pulling the OBD1.5 bin and rewriting.
Mapping the Tables will be your job lol.

Sorry, I was wrong earlier. I can't save the bin to a computer. But I am trying do the opposite with a tech 2 and another tool. You should be able to download a stock bin (or close) from the downloads section of this site.

You want to get on Monodax.com and search posts for AJxtcman.
He uses the tech 2 to hack the programs into caddillacs for tuning.
I believe he simply swaps segments though, but he does that offboard and uses the tech 2 for uploading.
