  • 89 Corsica Cooling Fan Relay

OK just bought a used 89 Corsica with the 2.8 V-6 The Electric Radiator Fan will not kick on no matter how long the Car has been running AC on or not (I am in Arizona Cooling fan should kick on) Tested fan with Direct power. Fan spins with Direct power. Replacing the Relay and not sure which relay to replace. there is a bank of 4 on the Firewall in the engine compartment all have the same exact part number. Any Help would be appreciated

When the fan should turn on, start tapping the relays with a screw driver. I did that on mine and when I tapped it, it turned on! so I knew which one.

Or try and find a repair manual or diagram online?

Also, you can unplug each one and look at the bottom/all over. The one that is burned out will probably have a "hot spot" on the case where it's discolored from being hot from resistance and burning up. My shot one was like this.

Thanks for the info robertisaar. Replaced the correct Relay. Still not getting any fan movement. Any other ideas. If the car has been running for a while and I slow to a stop at a light car will stall out on take off. I am guessing this is an overheating issue but I could be wrong

Check to see if the right relay is getting power for the fan and a signal to close the contacts? If the relay is fine, but it's not getting power to send to the fan despite being tripped by the ecm, the fan isn't going to run.

Going to check that as well. Need to get a hold of a Voltmeter of test light. (No tools of my own borrowing family garages and tools when I can)

On another note how many fuse blocks are in the Corsy. I found the one in the cabin trying to find another in the engine compartment that appears to be there according to the schematic robertisaar linked

Found the fuse that is referred to. It is an Inline fuse on the relay block. Kinda hidden in a little plastic box that looks like another relay!
