  • I am done sick of my computer system/ money pit.

I am done sick of my computer system/ money pit.

I am about ready to swap to reular HEI and carb.

Unless anyone can offer solid proof on what parts to change and will back that up with money out of your pocket if your wrong.

As of now, there is no proof that several hundred dollars in parts will fix anything.

Where going to a regular dizzy and carb will.

You can tell Im sort of fed up and need help in one direction or the other.

    See post if you wish

DFI and ECM - Can't pull trouble codes, normal code 12 does not flash - Can't pull trouble codes, normal code 12 that show the system is working will not flash. Light just stays lite, no flashing. I know how to pull codes, I got the jumper key. Have pulled codes before. Problem is on a cold start I lose power...

Tech / General Engine - Ever done the Resistance in ECM ground circuit test? - Ever done the Resistance in ECM ground circuit test? Did it yield any results? Last thing I had done before it went funky on me was move my intake hose and MAF around, Didn?t unplug it or anything. Can?t get codes to flash and even the use...

DFI and ECM - Is there any flaw in this design - I just want to make sure, verfyi no one thinks its the fancy switching ALDL cable I built and is why I can't pull codes? Are any of these said parts touchy about heat? Could I have burned them out solidering them? Can you test the NPN Transistor once the cable is built...

Well first off, please tell us exactly what it is doing then list all the parts in order that you have replaced. State whether they are NEW replacements, what brand, Used?, How old they are. Then list any testing you may have done.

I don't know what kinda problems you have, but I can tell you what will work cause i've done it and my 1983 2.8l camaro ran fine untill I pulled the motor out to freshen it up(started to smoke, sat for a long time).
One buy the edelbrock intake manifold for a 4bbl, then buy a holley 390cfm 4bbl. That will eliminate the computer controlled carb. Second go to Auto Zone buy a dist. for a CANADAIN made 2.8l that dist. has vacuum advance on it then buy a universal ignition coil and hook everything up and your computer can be disconnected alltogether. Any carb from the 80's that were computer controlled always had problems. I had an 1987 Dodge Charger 2.2l I-4 with the same set up, I swapped that carb out as well for a regular Holley 2bbl.
This is probly not what you want to do but it the only I can tell you for now.

Thanks allot there, besides maybe less mileage did it perform the same over all???

As is its super annoying as replacing computer parts are no guarantee to fix anything. Gonna cost about $200 for ECM, prom, MAF, AIT and it could still run like crap. Where it ran great for 7-8+ years.

No need to retype everytihng if you follow the links posted above it tells what all my problems are.

well i have had the same problem with 2 different cars with efi b4.and after changing a sh@t load of things i found that puting a 4bbl and geting rid of the electronics is the best way. and i found some power going from tbi to 4bbl if yours is tbi you should feel the same but if it's mpfi you may not get any more or even lose some.but at least it will work good

What kind of cost was that, new or used parts.

Think I might have better luck finding a canda site since they did the regular HEI n carb more thne the US???

Id perfer to go used on parts. doesn't have to be a 4bb either, id take 2bb stuff if it was cheap.

i would look on car-parts.com for the intake carb and distributor it's your best bet.
i remember when it happened to my 3.1 i replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition module and coils, plugs, wires various sensors and checked and rechecked the harness as well i got used injectors and ecu. i spent around 500$$ and i never found out what was wrong.

                              It’s Alive!!!!!!

                              Thank the lord.

The ECM replacement was a total shot in the dark.
Did have a few hiccups at first.
Had to wire my fuel pump back up as it was on a switch.
[Computer turning it on should of been a clue]

I was then able to get the 2nd ALDL cable I built working and was able to do some data logging.
