  • Do I need Fan# 2?

I'm almost finished with my 1227727 swap harness, and I have a quick question:

Do I need to use the Fan #2 Control (A3) for anything? While I technically have dual fans, they are on the same relay (both on or both off). Do I also need to wire the fan #2 control to that relay, or can I simply omit it.

The only time I could think of the second fan running while the first was not is for air conditioning. Is that how it works? I don't have A/C right now, but I am working towards reinstalling it someday.

IIAC, the computer also has different turn on temps for each fan. I don't think this is anywhere near the correct numbers, but say fan one turns on at 185* and then fan two comes on at 210*. Kinda like a fan overdrive. Don't know if this helps or not but thought I would though it out there.

For clearance issues I had to use dual 10" fans in place of the mechanical fan or a larger single electric fan. They seem to do a fine job of keeping this engine cool.

I opened up the BIN and started looking at the fan settings. Looks like you're right, but the second fan is pretty much disabled here. Set to cycle Fan #1 between 219-226º F (A/C Off). Are those reasonable, considering the engine is in a truck?

      Fan 1 On, Low MPH, A/C Off - 107.75º C
      Fan 1 Off, Low MPH, A/C Off - 104.00º C
      Fan 1 On, Hi MPH or A/C On - 106.25º C
      Fan 1 Off, Hi MPH or A/C On - 101.75º C
      Fan 1 Low/High MPH Threshold - 70 MPH

      Fan 2 On, Low MPH, A/C Off - 151.25º C
      Fan 2 Off, Low MPH, A/C Off - 151.25º C
      Fan 2 On, Hi MPH or A/C On - 151.25º C
      Fan 2 Off, Hi MPH or A/C On - 151.25º C
      Fan 2 Low/High MPH Threshold - 255 MPH
