  • Need help, no pulse at injectors, runs for 2 sec

Doing a conversion, 85-89 2.8 V6 in a 1974 MGB, Have all the sensors hooked up & the ECM, but it will only run for about 2 sec & quit or if I squirt gas in the throttle body it will run longer. I don't think my injectors are pulsing & I have good fuel pressure. Tried a different ECM w/ the same results. The book says that the injectors should read 8 ohms or more, mine read less than 1 ohm & w/ the key in run I have voltage at both wires to my injector. I don't have the knock sensor hooked up. I would love any help I can get.
    Thanks Mike

    What is your fuel pressure?

My fuel press is 48psi @ the fuel rail, while cranking.

Is the fuel pressure consistent while it is running? How did you wire the fuel pump? Did you use a fuel pump relay and oil pressure switch through the ECM like stock? If so, are you sure the wiring is correct? It's funny that it will run for a bit and then quit...I'd expect it wouldn't run at all if the injectors were bad. Did you thoroughly check for vacuum leaks?

I'm running a 3.1 in my B by the way. Where are you located?

Scott, I did wire it like stock w/ a relay & through the oil sensor. I think that the cold start injector is letting in enough fuel to let it run for 2 sec. the pressure is good, but I don't think the ECM is opening the injectors, suspect the ECM. I'm in Michigan, used a conversion kit from Classic Conversions. Where are you located? Do you know the service # on your ECM?

My bad, for some reason I assumed you had a FWD motor. I have a Gen II 3.1 in my car using a 1227727 ECM. I'm in central Ohio. Still sounds like a wiring issue to me although I'm sure you've checked it.

It appears you have the wrong fuel injectors, 1 ohm of resistance across the fuel injector terminal of one fuel injector indicates you have peak hold injectors instead of the high resistance injectors 12 ohm that are often found on GM cars. You can run the high ohm injectors in an ECM wired for peak hold injectors but not the other way around. Putting low ohm peak hold injectors in a high ohm injector system will burn out the injecor drivers because they are not capable of handling the load which amounts to a short with resistance that low.
