PPS - I can offer 27SF512 EEPROM/flash chips for $3 with your order, and *possibly* a Zero-insertion-force "ZIF" socket for an extra $7. The ZIF socket has a lever that allows you to install/remove chips just by dropping them in. Makes it a breeze. I need to make sure they work with the board first though.

and not know what a prom adapter is?

isnt your pcm tuned or did you just throw it all on without tuning :P ??? lol
or did you get someone else to tune

basicly this allows the 27c256(uv erasable) factory prom to be replaced with a newer eeprom(electronicly erased) to allow for custom code to be ran (using programmer)on your pcm

in affect, this "adapter" "bypasses" the factory chip, using the one you stick into the adapter

BTW, the ZIF sockets just came in! They will work, but if you don't purchase an assembled kit, you will need to bend the pins underneath the socket so it will sit flat against the board.

I've changed thousands of chips using a regular socket and a screwdriver, but the ZIF is the ultimate in convenience...

Sorry....I use a DHP POwerTuner to customize a set of PCM's.....with a Laptop ........this sounds like a pain in the ass.....how do you guys program the prom?...What equiptment do you use..........Ive done eprm swaps on DTV recievers..........but this is interesting...I dont think its something I need to mess with....was just curious..........

im not familiar with dhp :P

this is for obd1, non emulating, take chip off burn put back in repeat
there are numerous amounts of burners like willems, or moates' burn1, apu1

you can even use this adapter for emulation devices as well(correct me if im wrong) like moates' ostrich, apu1 autoprom

"tuning" or modifying a "bin" file(whats on the chip that the ecu uses) is done with software, the bin file is burnt to the chip(using the burner), and chip installed into the ecu.

or with an emulator the bin file is uploaded tot he emulator and tuning is done in "real time" with the software for the emulator

Yeah, anyone past 94 who has never touched the ECM of a pre-94 vehicle won't know about a EEPROM. Anything past 94 (except some of the DOHCs, which continued to use PROMs until 96-ish?) doesn't have a removable PROM, so these are worthless to them.

But, for OBD1 stuff, its pretty nice.

Thanks for clearing that up.....I felt like an idiot...but there you go ...learn something new everyday I visit you guys and this site........I am OBII and now that I know what you guys have to do to modify your PCM....I am glad I am OBII............Sorry for being ignorant about the earlier models..........Good Luck

If you ever get to OBDII tuning the DHP Powertuner connects straight into the port under the dash and with the powertuner suite you upload whatever you want to the .bin......all fuel curves and MAF curves and tranny points, injector settings etc. are all customizable on the fly. The DHP PT site is where all the spreadsheets are traded and where all the discussions about tuning take place.....I still have alot to learn and i have been toying with it for a year now(I have 1PCM for N/A and 1PCM for boost and go back and fourth for whatever I am running at the time.......go on a long trip....take the blower belt off...switch to the N/A PCM.....and enjoy 33MPG til you get there.....put the belt back on and go to the boost PCM......and play till its time to go home.....kinda cool)......but you have full control over the PCM with a laptop and its all up to your imagination what you can squeeze out of you powerplant
