I wouldn't call it a 30hp gain. More like a 16hp gain. Why? The 2005 3400 was available in several body styles, ranging from 170hp to 185hp. And they all used the same parts. So how can you have that much difference with the same parts?! Alot has to do with the exhaust and tuning. Since the 3500 has a much better exhaust setup (the manifold design and the fact that they dump individually and don't join until under the car), I would say there is a good chance there was a significant gain there.
And as far as having a block in front of me to look at, like I mentioned before, I do... I also have 2 3100 blocks right next to it to compare, and I can tell you right now that the differences are not significant enough for a 30hp (or even 16hp) gain from just the block.-Brad-

goooooood!cause none of you know anything!first of all the cam isnt the same for the simple fact that the 3100 and the 3400 have a hollow cam which was a problem with them breaking.gm corrected that problem with the 3500.look at the diffrence in torque between the 2.i guess that doesnt count for nothing either?

None of us know anything. Amazing. The cam specs are the same. I measured them myself. Going from a hollow to solid cam is not a performance increase, its a durability increase.
Torque increase, you don't say. I wonder if its because the 3500 heads flow better and are a better design on the intake and exhaust ports. Better combustion chamber shape as well. Perhaps its the redesigned intake valve shape. Maybe its the shorter runner length and the better breathing upper and lower. Ive flowed them all. Oh wait, none of that would give you 16 hp. Its gotta be the .2-.3 compression increase and the non hollow cam. Oh, and speed pro stock replacement cams for the 3100/3400 are solid now as well. Guess I should add those to the store for a 16 hp gain even though they are the same stock specs.Ben

Hmm. Good luck with the sales, but seriously you're not impressing anyone.
If you really think you are right, then build your motor, show pictures and post dyno sheets. Until then you can't dispute what has been proven and is common knowledge.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

I just thought of something. If you put the 3100/3400 heads on a 3500 shortbock, wouldnt it net some insane compression? Because of the smaller combustion chamber of the 3400 heads.
Either way, this guys has no place on this site. Everyone is wrong except him. He is the almighty 660 God of Knowledge!
