  • MAX232 ALDL cables - any interest?

I had some problems getting the 2 transistor ALDL cable to work with my grand prix. I know a lot of people can't solder, etc, so I was wondering if anybody would be interested in ALDL interface cables built with the superior MAX232 chip? I know mastach.com sells them for $45 (and ships from poland), and moates.net sells a USB one for $50+ship.

Mine would be completely integrated inside of the connector itself (unlike the seperate mastach "box"). Estimated price would be about $35 shipped. Maybe less if we got together a group buy of 10 or more.
Okay now, that's enough of that.

No interest then? Too high of a price or what? I could get the price down to $25 shipped if I purchased enough materials to make 25 at once... Seeing as how there's no interest, I'm thinking it's not worth the effort.
Okay now, that's enough of that.

        OBDI - yes

        OBDII - probably not

It all depends on what software you're using.
Okay now, that's enough of that.

sounds interesting, how would it benefit obd 1.5 users like me?

well, you could look up the ALDL definition, put it into tunerpro RT, and scan for codes, check engine statistics (tps %, MAP, CTS, MAF if any, etc), take datalogs and figure out problems or tune.
Okay now, that's enough of that.

I'd be interested in one for obdI. Is it going to be serial of usb?

$35 shipped sounds like a good price.

It would be serial since there are USB to serial adapters on ebay for like $5.

It would also be powered by the serial port, so you don't have to plug anything into the cigarette lighter.

Don't know. I'm looking into having the boards made. It appears as though mastach sells about 4 a month, which is pretty good I guess... With a cheaper setup, I could probably get more business, so I guess I'm not too worried about being stuck with them.... Even though there is only one person interested here..
