  • F/S: Falconer ported iron heads

EDIT: DO NOT CALL FALCONER ABOUT THESE HEADS. Eric sold them to me to be rid of them. He does not have the time to field questions about them. I will post flow numbers as soon as I have them (shop says 1-2 days). Once that information is up, I will start accepting money and making shipments. I would not want to buy ported heads without flow numbers, so I'm not expecting anyone else to do that.
    [/edit]

I will shortly have a lot of 19 iron heads of the type used in the 60 degree 6 racing effort in the late '80's. These are the heads used by Falconer on their 280 HP 2.8's and 300 HP 3.0's. That's 100 HP/Litre from naturally aspirated 60 degree V6's! The port work was done by BPE (www.bpeheads.com). Falconer ran 1.720 intake valves and 1.430 exhaust valves. I am currently trying to track down flow numbers, but these were done a long time ago and not everyone keeps extensive records for 20 years. I am told they were run in competition with approximately 0.560 lift. They are physically capable of 0.600, but there's no gain beyond 0.560.

These heads are USED race heads that are in serviceable condition. These are NOT fully assembled, ready to run parts. Most are bare castings. I am told that several of them need seat clean-up and some of them may need more work, like guides.

This is what the lot will contain:

    8 pair ported, uncracked heads
1 pair ported, cracked, but repairable heads
    1 head, brand new, unported.

The lot will also contain approximately 4 sets of used Titanium valves.

I am claiming 2 pairs of heads and 2 sets of valves for myself. The rest I am putting up for sale.

I would like to see $400 per pair of heads and $200 per set of valves.

How much for the brand new head? Id like one to do some testing on with my flowbench but I dont wanna spend a whole lot. Id like to get some stock readings though for this site since all I have are aluminum heads right now. Ill need stock valves though with the head but I can order those if need be.

Hmm... I haven't been getting reply notifications for this thread.

I'll have pics as soon as I get the heads.

Intake valves are 1.720 and exhaust 1.430.

We can work something out on the untouched head. PM me.

I'll proabably buy 1 set of ported heads once I see flow numbers. I wonder why he ran a larger exhaust. Usually a larger intake is installed.

Heads were supposed to be delivered today. They weren't. I'll give someone an earful about that tomorrow.

I should be able to get flow numbers by the end of next week.

What do I measure to see if a head has been shaved? What should the measurement be for a virgin head?

Someone fouled things upstream of the local depot. I don't even have someone to call and yell at.

New arrival time scheduled for Monday.

I received a pleasant surprise this afternoon... a pallet full of cylinder heads arrived.

                        It carried:
                        23 iron heads (20 ported, 2 cracked, 1 stock)
3 aluminum heads (2 with rectangular ports, one with trapezoidal ports)
                        24 pushrod guide plates
                        47 large rocker studs
                        12 small rocker studs
                        23 titanium intake valves
                        24 titanium exhaust valves
37 triple wound (or is it properly called dual w/ damper?) valvesprings
49 titanium retainers for small keepers
12 titanium retainers for large keepers
                        48 pr small keepers
                        12 pr large keepers
5 springs seats & associated parts

                        Pics to follow.
I will be taking a head and a pair of valves, springs and retainers to a shop next Monday. I'll have the head flowed and the spring measured.

In terms of sets, I have:
10 workable pairs of iron heads (putting 8 up for sale)
1 cracked pair of iron heads
                        1 stock head casting
almost 4 sets of 7/16" rocker studs (just missing 1)
1 set of 3/8" rocker studs
almost 4 sets of Titaium valves (missing 1 intake valve)
                        3 sets of springs + a spare
5 sets of titanium retainers & steel keepers (4 sets + spare for small keepers, 1 set for large keepers)
4 sets of pushrod guide plates
almost one head's worth of spring seats.

I took two heads to www.justiceracingengines.com on Monday. They should be flowed by the end of the week.

                            Valves, Retainers and Spring:

On the deck and chambers pic, you can see cutting marks from a very large diameter head. I'd say that this is the factory deck surface on this particular head.

Falconer is definitely on the west coast... Heads came with no rust-preventative measures taken but were rust free. They sat here for a week and already had surface rust. I used a whole can of WD-40 thoroughly spraying down ALL of them. This one is one of the worst and it's not very bad... I caught things in time.
