I am selling a Vortech RSM Supercharger Kit for the 3400 V-6 engine. The kit is known to fit the Grand Am, Alero, Monte Carlo, however it should work on almost all the 3400 engine platforms. I have gone through the kit with the help of another RSM Supercharger owner and together we have worked out the downsides of the kit.
I purchased the kit in August from (boosted 2000 gt) on grandamgt.com with the intent of getting the common problems worked out and installing it on my car, now that the problems are all worked out; I find my self entering into a new chapter of my life and no longer plan on installing the kit. I was told that the supercharger had “around 10,000 miles on it give or take” As far as I can tell the only thing that is missing is the plastic fan shroud piece, which is not really needed.
First I would like to cure up any complaints that you may have heard about the RMS Supercharger Kit.
Complaint #1: Bearing failure is common.
While this might be a true statement, it is due to an oversight by RSM.
RSM used a rubber shielded bearing which is not rated for the application.
The solution is to install a 1630 ZZ metal shielded bearing, which is a much better bearing for this application. When consulting with a bearing specialist, he commented that “with the use of the rubber shielded bearing that it is no surprise that it fails on a regular basis”.
Complaint #2: RSM Tuning
It was found out that RSM deleted the MAF sensor out of the computer and added no further tuning to their computer.
The solution to this is simple; if you are going with any forced induction system you need a way to tune your specific vehicle. A tuner from either HPTuners or DHP is highly recommended, as almost no two vehicles are alike in regards to tuning. I also highly recommend reinstalling the MAF sensor with this kit.
Other Issues:
A few other issues that I found with the RSM Supercharger Kit were weak key pins. I replaced both of the key way pins with a stronger metal pin to keep tight tolerances.
These are the main issues that people have reported with the RSM Supercharger Kit, all of which have been addressed with this specific kit.
Price = $2,000 + shipping
The current kit from z-spec.com sell for $3,900, so here is your chance to save almost half with alot less headache.
