  • Thermal coated turbo grand prix intake.

This is a 3.1 gen2 intake from a mclaren turbo grand prix.
It's been thermal coated with Techline thermal dispersent and the lettering is polished out.
Been sitting on the shelf since completed so could use a wipe down, used it as practice to see how it sprayed and cured compared to other coatings.
The thermal dispersent will help keep air charge temps lower. While testing this product on another intake (super victor with 3 stage coating on a 10sec 377ci blazer) we were actually able to get the intake to go below ambient temp a few degrees while under throttle.
You can read more and get specs probably on Techlines site, the product is called TLTD.

Get a great deal, intakes usually go for $60ish themselves.
The coating would run around $75+ for the single stage.

    Currently on ebay

There's one issue I have with what you posted about this coating. "Intake temps actually went below ambient". So this coating will break laws of thermodynamics? I'm sure there's some scientists that would love to get their hands on this coating if that's the case. If there was something else also used, such as nitrous or alcohol injection that would be the reason for less than ambient temps and is plausable at that point, but not without another medium/chemical that is colder than ambient temp or creates a colder environment when it evaporates.

    Or...

The ambient temp reference was inaccurate, when making these comparisons. Where/what was your source of ambient temp, how was the intake temp recorded/reported?

Might be possible with a carburetor setup, got some evaporative cooling going on there.........

It was a carb setup (700+hp sbc)the intake was temp'ed with both an infared gun as well as k-type since infared are a bit sketchy and not what I consider reliable.
We never touched the engine's 8k+ redline during testing,I believe we went to 4-5k rpm only.
I had a video of it but no clue where it is.
I'm not here to prove what i've done, feel free to read up on it in your own time.
Otherwise,if you're not interested in buying it please feel free to start a seperate thread on thermal dynamics,if I have time i'll be glad to pitch in with my experience with thermal coatings.
        Thanks

I do have another vehicle in the shop getting finished up with the same intake treatment.
If you like I will try to remember to do similar testing inhouse with more test equipment I have available. The motor is different (500hp 377ci) though I expect similar results and would like to test beyond 7500 rpm as well.

*the cooling effect is only in play when there is air movement over or thru the intake.
At idle with low airflow the intake will show regular temp, only when opening throttle does the intake drop temp.

Lol,I use my wifes account. That was her yahoo generated email account name when she was in HS,I stopped using ebay after they burned me on a $500 sale years ago. When I started using it again couldn't remember my password and was just easier to keep using hers.
