I wish there was something to say about this other than I'm completely pissed off at the lack of communication on TCE's side of this. No update in over 2 months when he said he was close to a resolution is ridiculous...

Modified or not it still works, it would just be cost of the work you would be out on... I'm running the modded crank in mine right now with a factory chain. If done right it only adds chain clearance and doesn't modify where the sprocket runs.

how so on bearings? Currently I'm out the machine work on the crank since what was done is useless and I'm out the money on the DRTC's themselves... As stated all I did was pull the timing cover, remove the DRTC and put on a OEM set. Done, the modded crank is still in there.

I guess I'm confused on how far along you were with this swap... I'm guessing the crank and bearings in your motor were already broken in and you were planning on swapping the crank out for the modded one which in turn would have necessitated new bearings...
I pulled the current crank got it modded and slapped it back in, didn't change the bearings at all so that's why i was only out gaskets and time to swap the original timing set back in after the failure.

on the note of oiling issues, it might not be a terrible idea to drill(and debur) a couple of small oil holes in the camshaft retainer plate so that there is plenty of oil flow to the back of the cam gear where the oil slots can sling it to the chain. when my car is in my hands again, i plan to do just that."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man.
