    • Counting owns me... The picture of the blanks come up at 27 Sets... seems like 22 were sold on here and maybe sold to others as well...

As I posted in the chat box just playing with the cam gear and the new chain I have, I feel the sprocket is cut wrong, or too deep... The rollers will not bottom out on the sprocket when you wrap the chain around it as much as it would be when installed... where its wrapping passed 180* on each side the roller is pressing hard to one side of the gear cut and not touching the radius at the bottom, so I feel like driving it like this slowly stretched the links out till the rollers bottomed out like they should be doing and it stopped there.

I strongly suggest anyone who bought one of these to NOT use it right now and remove it from their motor because I believe there will be a recall on them... At least I hope Marc can get an answer from the gear cutter when he verifies my theory and they will own up to the mistake made and take responsibility and replace these.

I'm looking at $542.5 of paper weights right now, which is a bit much to swallow and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way.

        • Well this really sucks. I have a full turbo build just waiting on the intercooler plumbing and its done. I have mine installed but haven't had a chance to run the motor. I called Mike at Milzy Motorsports right away to let him know about this. I guess mine too is apart of this last batch. He is calling Marc right away tomorrow to find out whats going on and then letting me know. I am going to be real pissed to have to take this all back out again but at least it will be caught before something bad could have happened. The worry I have is that if this is found to be a issue that we might not ever get a chance to see these again. I don't think Marc wanted to do this last batch to begin with.

          • Holy crap on a cracker.
Do we think the issue is only with this latest batch?
Anyone heard any feedback from people with earlier timing sets?
@3400-95-Modified, I know this isn't your first experience with these timing sets......you built a motor for someone else a few years ago with a DRTC, right?

            • I built a motor for Robert using a first gen set... and 3400tz has an original set as well for comparison sounds like those were OK, I found a few issues other than the chain not fitting the sprocket when held in place on one side, mine is missing the oiling slots on the back of the cam gear... The ones with TCE engraved on the front have these slots on the rear for oiling...

              Try this with your sprocket

              New chain

Badly stretched one that now fits the profile

              Also other pics.

              • I'm hoping for Marc that he provided the gear cutter with the right chain spec and they F-ed it up which then he could request that they replace the material and other costs he lost out on to get them replaced... Shitty part is I'm not too keen on waiting another 8-12 weeks to get another set. I'd like to drive my car this year.

                • When you first installed that new DRTC did you have almost no play in the chain? I noticed when I put mine in I had no slack in the chain at all. It seemed to me that my chain sat all the way in the sprockets. Can you post a top pick of the new chain on the sprocket?

                  • Yes there was absolutely no slack in the chain when installed, the chain fits the sprocket somewhat but there is just a little bit off on the pitch of the cut so if you wrap the chain around over 180* it does not lay into the sprocket without some effort to push it into the gears.

There is something wrong with the gear cut.

Someone did what I did above in the video with the first run sets and the chain does not do what I illustrated, it reacts like the stretched chain I have.

I don't have the sprockets and chain with me today but a pic wont show anything. If you just lay the chain on it looks like it fits perfectly because the chain wraps lightly around it, but if you hold it in place then rotate the sprocket the chain stops fitting the gear cut after a while and almost wants to skip a tooth.

I am running a set I got from WOT 2 years ago, the chain had a little slack when installed new but I had the block line bored so did not think anything of it and it is not making any more noise now then it did new. Running a bigger cam and Pak springs on it also.

I also had a small amount of slack in my chain. I also have one of the original sets and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I would think this was a mistake by the gear cutter since the first sets seem to be fine and I would assume marc would have just given the gear cutter the same specs from the first batch.

This is a pretty shitty situation but hopefully everything works out for everyone. 3400-95-Modified I sure hope nothing else got damaged with that much slack in the chain.

                            • New sprocket on bottom, used on top, hardly any wear.

Chain you can wiggle back and forth between links... new one has no movement like that.

And video of unused sprocket and new chain held in one spot and rotated.. Jumps one tooth.

I received an email from Marc, I'm waiting on a reply from him on if he wants me to post the details, but I will let you guys know do not worry he is working on a plan to fix this issue and as quick as he can too.

And yes it seems like all the original sets were cut fine (ones with TCE logo on them)... as I installed one on Robert's car and that had a bit of slack in the chain and worked just fine and still is working.
