I have the original Getrag 284 from my 1991 Grand Prix. It has roughly 120,000 miles on it. I replaced it with a spare that I had when I did the LX9 engine swap. I’m cleaning house and this thing has to go.
For parts only. Here are the issues:
-worn 1st gear synchro. If you’re not at a complete it tends to fight to engage 1st
-2nd gear synchro slightly worn. Still shifts ok but you can tell its not perfect.
-when in 4th gear, the shifter tends to move back and forth a bit, maybe bent shift fork?
-worked and drove until the day I removed it
So, obviously not something you want to put in a car. But if you want it for parts, teardown practice, or for a giant paper weight you can have it. You’d have to come get it in southern Connecticut.
Also have a good, bare, 3.4 dohc block. Free to anyone who wants to take it.
I can deliver for $0.50 per mile, up to 75 mile radius from house.
