  • Carillo Connecting Rods for sale

I have a set of 60 degree V6 Carillo connecting rods for sale. They are brand new and have been sitting around for a long time. I've been planning a build and recently decided to use a different rod.

    Specs are:

    Center to Center: 5.930"
    Width: Stock 60 degree V6
Pin Diameter: Small Block Chevy (have bronze bushings in them)
Rod Journal: Uses standard 60 degree 2.000" bearings.
    Cap Screws: SPS

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I have a CAD model of the available should anyone want it.

I bought them from Ryan Falconer Racing. I was told they were the spare set of connecting rods from the 1984 through 1985 Corvette GTP car which had a 3.4L turbo in it. The dimensions seem to check out for the 60 degree V6. I think they are within 0.030" of the length for the new 3.5 and 3.9 V6s.

Are they 2.25 Journal like the 3500/3900? Shouldn't be for an 85. They are totally custom for something that didn't exist in 85.

No they are for the 2.000" journals. I read an article about the engine and they claimed it was a destroked 4.3 V6. However when I compared the rod width to the rods I have from a 3400 V6 LA1 engine they are the same (0.855"). So they are totally custom.

Back in the day it wasn't that unusual for race engines to have totally custom stroke and bores. I'm guessing that the stroke was smaller then the 2.8 Stroke since the bore of a 4.3 is about the same as a 3.9.

Also interestingly the wrist pins are almost the size of a BBC. The engine put out 1200 HP back in '85. So I can understand the need for huge wrist pins.

Of course technology has changed a bit since then.

The other conclusion I can reach is that they are for a 2.8L style block. They did have the aluminum blocks back then from GM high performance. However, I can only guess which block they fit.

What I do know is that if you take a stock 3.5/3.9 LZ engine and grind the journals to 2.000" they should use the stock pre LZ bearings while still having a length that is within 0.030" of the stock LZ rods.

My issue with them is weight. They are heavy which isn't good for high RPM.

Since my goal is 8,000 to 8,500 RPM I may have to spring for a lighter rod. I imagine that 7500 RPM would be easy for these rods though.
