  • Wanted WANTED: 5 speed parts

am looking for a shifter out of a 96-99 j-body and the shifter cables, needs to connect to a getrag 282

the intermedaite shaft and mounting plate, i need this part the most, does anybody know what cars used the intermediate shaft, are the 4 cyl shafts the exact same?

    Am located in central Minnesota

also does anybody know if the flywheel from the 2200 and clutch setup will work on my 3.4? when looking online it seems the 2200 clutch disc is 1/8 inch smaller in diameter.

        5 speed stuff

I have a 99 j-body shifter u can have for the cost of shipping. As far as cables be carful there's two styles but for hooking them to a 282 search nvg swap on j-body.org and it will show you how to adapt the cables (and cavalier mounts) to a 282. A 2200 clutch and flywheel would work I think. Whar car are you putting a 282 in.

If you get axlesfrom a five speed 2.4 grand am you wont need a intermediate shaft. But u will have unequal axles

Have you done this swap? Never read that anywhere but I also haven't seen many people complete this. Would their be issues with having that one long cv axle I will be adding power down the road.

                Torque steer.

That's the biggest advantage of equal length axles, it eliminates torque steer

All W bodies with the 282 all had jack shafts, iirc.

                      I just dropped a getrag-282 into a 96 GP (w-body).

W-body getrag-282's have a different bolt pattern for the mount to subframe. Just make sure the bellhousing came from any 60v6 but the w-body. I know this by having to find a unique getrag from a w-body only.

I think the 2001 GA had a factory option for a 5-speed. That would be the best stuff too look up, but not 100% sure.

If you mean the housing over the intermediate axle, then yes.

If I had the four cylinder in my car I would of had a factory option of a 5 speed, but I just don't like 4 cylinders. I already have a trans its from a 1990 beretta. just need to get my hands on a jack shaft

The whole shebang is what's normally called a jack shaft, the intermediate axle and the housing

I swapped a 282 into my 98z24 not a grand am. I'm 100% sure 5 speed 2.4 grand am axles will work in your 282 swap as long as the motor is mounted in a factory location. I my stock cavalier axles because I couldn't find a v6 intermediate shaft. I have a quad4 internediate shaft that will fit in the trans (for sure) but wouldn't mount to block (I was told, never checked) I don't have torque steer issues but it is said to be the downside to uneven axles.

I wonder how different the quad intermediate shaft mounting plate is compared to the v6. I would prefer to be using a intermediate shaft in my swap. my motor will be in the stock location, its the stock motor. I have a brand new passenger cv axle so I would like to be using that instead of having to buy a new one. In a couple years and or when this motor takes a shit, I will be putting a 3500 in. I have the trigger to do it.
