Are you asking about the GM DIS or dizzy? The signal between the ICM and the ECM is the same in both cases, with one lsight difference, the DIS used on the 660 requires anadtional 60 of advance added to the timing signal.
The dizzy will use a matching number of "points" on the reluctor wheel to the cylinder number, a 6 cylinder will have 6 points, 8 cyl will have 8 points, etc.
The DIS systems will vary depending on what engine it is. The 660 uses a 6+1 wheel, the LT5 uses an 8+1 wheel, the OHV 2.0/2.2L uses the same 6+1 wheel as the 660, The Northstar uses a wheel that is unique to itself that uses odd spaced notches, and two crank position sensors, as well as a cam position sensor to trigger the ICM, the 690 has yet another wheel. I believe the Quad4 enines used a system unique to it as well.
