  • Wanted 4T65E specialty tools

Anyone have 4T65E specialty tools. Im looking mainly for the J33381 and J38358. And any holding fixture that would hold the 4t65e

I will say all three of those tools are over rated.

I've rebuilt many 4t60e's which have the same configuration as the 65e without all of the "specialty tools" and I've even done full rebuilds including all the teflon seals and o-rings and such.

As far as a holding fixture, if you have a spare engine stand, you can make your own and it will be on wheels too.

I had to drill a new hole for the rotation holding pin since I could not put it in from the top once rotated up.

I install the second clutch horizontally with the sprags, and gear, and 2nd drum installed and then rotate the trans back up vertical to do the rest of the build. It's worked for me every time, should be much easier this year since I have the stand to rotate it much easier.

thats an awesome idea....not sure why i didnt think of that. i guess you think outside the box

i have a mig welder so i could do what you did there....thanks!!!

as far as the other tools, ive watched rebuilds get done without them, but i figure if i can pick em up cheap it would make things easier thats all. theres no doubt it can be done without em. did you fabricate something to compress the clutch pack springs?

        Fingers... LOL

They are not that strong, and when putting together a clutch pack there are no springs to worry about, on the 2nd drum its only when you go to replace the rubber seal drum, and those springs aren't that tight... and then on the input/3rd housing they are a bit stronger, but once again still manageable with a few screwdrivers and your hands... Be sure the housing is secure though and not rolling around on the bench... lol

I've done both of my car's transmissions and one other one for a friend with none of the specified tools needed... I've even checked for final drive end play, And input end play without the tools
