  • Wanted Getrag 284 Transmission and Related Parts

    Hello,

I am looking to swap a Getrag 284 into my 95 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34. Currently I have nothing although I may have a 284 Transmission on the way. I still need everything else... shifter, flywheel, cables, pedals, and so on.

PM me with details or Post in this thread...

    Thanks,

    Dan

Yea that would be great if someone wants to post one; then I can just cross it off part by part.

Wow, I can't believe how hard it is proving to be finding these parts. Anybody have any leads?

I have the trans out of my Z24, but its a W-41 (3XTX) gear box with the V6 bellhousing. I'm not for sure what cars have the 284. Years ago we went my the RPO codes. I may have a shifter also.

            284's were a W body only item.

As for what other parts you want, you can modify your under hood harness, but you will want the shifter, shift cables, trans mounts (not sold anywhere anymore) and the firewall plate that the pedals mount to. You might also want the pedal pod since 95 didn't come with a 5 speed (mine had a mounting point since the 5 speed was optional that year) and I have no idea if the provisions for hanging a pedal are still there. Also clutch hydraulics would be a good thing too, it tends to make starting out and gear changes easier.

I joined w-body.com, still this is proving to be an impossible task. What's funny is that it seems like just about everybody on that site is pulling gears in there w-body's; can't seem to figure out where to get these parts from.

Meanwhile, phase 2 of plan one is a turbo kit for the car. If I can't get a 5-speed together, I can only imagine how impossible of a task that is going to be.

Well, i've had the car for 5 years so... what's another 5 years of waiting for parts!

It took me a few years to make the 91 a 5 speed, and it took going in halves with Ben on a 92 GTP 5 speed donor car that had decided going under the rear of a semi sounded like a good idea. You may want to look for a part/donor to make the task easier. Then you also have a template on how things go as far as placement and hookup as well.

                  Yea, been lookin, no luck

truth is it might be easier to just sell the car, or junk it and buy a lumina. It does have 213,000 miles on it after all.Oddly enough I have had the car so long its hard for me to give up on it.

I could always just put the 4t60e back in again too.

                  I keep lookin

I have a complete 5-speed changeover for a W-body. Came out of a Z34 Lumina. Pedals, firewall bracket, hush panel, shifter... I think both cable are still attached. Console top even. I will look tonight and post again in about an hour. I was going to do my '90 McLaren Turbo GP, but decided to stay with the auto and go AWD (4T65E M76 transfer case direct drive to C4 rear diff assy).

I actually have two complete setups. One is from an '88 GP 2.8 5-speed, but the cables are for the 282 trans.

I'll sell you the one for the 284. PM me your number so I can call you Monday.

I'll take it! How much for just the trans?

What do you need? I have everything from the car from the shifter, console, cables, pedals, brackets, etc. I do not have a transmission at this time, but I have two coming in a couple weeks. let me know exactly what you need.

Specifically speaking, a Getrag for an 87 Fiero.

Generally speaking, a Getrag from a 88~91ish FWD V6 car. Beretta, Corsica, ect.
