I don't have a cam but be sure to check your cam bearings before installing the cam.

My thinking on the block is to send it in for a hot tank job with new cam bearings and freeze plugs. I did a quick check on the cylilnder walls and crank journals and they look ok for a rebuild. Is there anything else that I should have the machine shop do while I have the block into them?

typically if you broke a cam in the block there is going to be other issues, In my opinion it would probably be cheaper to pick up a used running engine from the yard and drop that in. You could even upgrade to a 3400.

^^^Rebuilding a 3.1 after that type of failure is, in and of itself, a failure!!

                Lots of good engines
