  • For Sale, 1991 GP GTP 5 speed Getrag 284

Fellas, this is a day I didn't think would ever come. That said, this is more of a feeler thread. I don't have the new toy yet and it isn't set in stone yet - I won't mention what it is, but I can say it is GM but not a 660. I don't have room for 3 cars in the stable and I can't have 2 toys and a daily so the GP is on the chopping block!

It is a 1991 GP GTP
    5 speed Getrag 284
    122k miles
    LOCATED IN CONNECTICUT

Options - fully loaded except does NOT have ABS
has everything else available though, including:
    Heads Up Display
    Leather
    Sunroof
    a/c - ice cold
    16x8 wheels - new tires
    spoiler

    asking $2,900
short story, you get a modded, fast, GP with a spare Getrag 284

    The good:
    engine runs great
    she looks sharp

    The mods:
-ported cylinder heads (ported by Ben)
-new exhaust valves and all new valve seals
-crank underdrive pulley, alternator overdrive pulley
    -96+ intake manifolds
-custom throttle arm, 75mm Northstar throttlebody
-2.5" stainless exhaust into a single flowmaster 80 series with dual exhaust outlet - best sounding dohc I've heard
-battery in trunk with extremely large gauge wire (ground to the trans)
    -true cold air intake - 4" tubes/filter
-electric crankcase evacuation pump. runs off shift light output coded to turn on at 4k rpm. Pulls vacuum from front valve cover and evacuates to exhaust via evac tubes before muffler tips.
    -94 rear brakes
-ongoing tuning process via reprogramming eeprom. Very close to perfect.
    -1yr old
-I'm sure there is plenty I am missing

    Recently replaced:
    -subframe bushings
    -brakes (Morse Ceramics)

    Needs:
-Leaks small amount powersteering from the passenger side bellow of the rack. It is a TGP tight ratio rack and it likely needs a new seal. I have another rack that can go with the car but it is not a TGP rack.

    The bad:
-Trans has trouble synchronizing 1st, 2nd. Stick has some slop in 3rd/4th BUT I HAVE A SPARE GOOD SHIFTING 284 THAT GOES WITH THE CAR - INCLUDES SPARE CLUTCH - the car is perfectly driveable as is and I never bothered replacing the trans since the one in it still works.
    -drivers seat a bit worn
    -interior needs a good cleaning
-power antenna busted, have glass antenna on the rear glass

    The pics:

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    John

Well guys, this thread is officially real.
I bought a C4 Vette. It honestly isn't much faster than the Grand Prix, but it is a ton of fun to drive. It's a grunter and the Grand Prix is a screamer so I'm getting used to that difference. I gotta say the instant and ample torque is very nice but the LT1 needs a cam and some other goodies to help it out up top.

I'm open to offers on the GP, it comes with a spare good condition/no issue Getrag 284. The GP is NOT winter driven and hence is a completely rust free car.

I'm considering keeping it since it costs me virtually nothing but my dilemma is where to keep it. Will consider offers.

I know this thread is old, and I'll post a new one, but in case anyone is looking for a rebuilt Getrag 284, I have a rebuilt one in a box, never installed, that was for my GTP that was never installed because it turned out the prob was related to the clutch, not the trans.

I know I won't get anywhere near the $2300 it cost, but make an offer if you want one

I added to this post because those who posted might get email notification
