  • For Sale : 4) 2.8 crate engines on craigslist

I ran across this when looking for a replacement engine for my Sunbird that I just bought knowing that it would need a new engine. I needed a 3.1 but a crate 2.8 for only $300 was just fine by me.

Quoted from craigslist, Chicago, IL...Warrenville is S/W of the city on rte 88/Rte 59

He had 3 of the fwd motors before I got one. Great deal for a great little motor. They are remanufactured from GM and still in the crate with a full gasket set.

Yes, that's the motor before I started putting parts on it.
Now it's in the car and disguised as a 3.1....nobody will ever know.

I got the damn thing running on Thursday. Now I am pulling it back out. Either the main seal is dry-rotted from sitting so long or there is a gasket or plug that I overlooked up by the flywheel. Either way it is pissing oil out.

Still a good deal for a basically new engine.

It was the oil plug up at about 11 o'clock. (Oil galley plug?)

It was tight and it was doped, just not good enough. Either way, a great deal. New engine is in & running. Gonna take it out on a road test soon.

So far so good with the engine. Road construction has me pinned in for another weekend or two so she sits and waits for me. got about 1000 miles on her so far before they poured new curbs last weekend, no sidewalks so we can't go out.
