  • For Sale : 1996 3.4 liter dohc lq1 v6

FYI . . . this engine is still for sale.

I have a complete 1996 3.4 liter DOHC LQ1 V6 which only had 40,000 miles on it when I purchased it. Everything is there; throttle body to oil drain plug - crank pulley to flywheel - including the crossover pipe that runs between the exhaust manifolds. I think they broke one sensor when they pulled it - I think it was the O2.

I also have an LQ1 engine wiring harness and ECM from a 1996 Monti Carlo. It was pulled in 2003. It is the complete engine harness all the way to the fire wall including fuse panels. The ECM is still attached to the harness, the plastic box to protect the ECM from heat, the air filter & Mass Air Flow assembly and, both battery cables are included

I also have the engine mounts and the power steering pump (needs a new pulley) Everything looks to be in the same (good) condition it was when it was pulled from the Monti Carlo.

My plan was to somehow find a way to fit an LQ1 into a early 90's Cavalier which I imagined, would have been the equivalent to an early 70's big block Camaro. A wife and 3 kids later it is still on an engine stand in my cluttered garage here in central Illinois.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be a drop in even after sitting in my garage for 6+ years. My only recommendation would be to pull the upper and lower intake manifolds and replace the O-ring around the stub-shaft for the oil pump drive and while that is out pre-lube the engine.

Send me a private message if you are interested. The engine is located in Peoria, Illinois. Sorry, I won't be able to ship it but I will help in loading it (I have a hoist).

I also have an LQ1 short block with a bad rod & piston. The damage was caused by a fluid lock likely from a bad head gasket. It shortened the connecting rod enough that the crank counterweight contacts the piston. I bought it to use as a fit up piece for investigating whether or not an LQ1 would fit into a cavalier.

At this point I don't even know what to ask for it but, there is currently one listed on E-bay as a "Buy It Now" for $750 with twice as many miles and no engine harness etc. So, I'm guessing that $950 is a fair asking price .
