So after much deliberation and futile searching, I've decided on a 4.9 swap. So all of my 2.8 performance parts and short-block are going. Everything listed here is off of an iron head 2.8. Most of you probably know better than me what might be interchangeable with other motors.
Everything is located north of Columbus Ohio.
Here's the parts list, some are brandy new never used, some are used. Any used parts have less than a thousand miles on them. There are also a few things that are specific to the Fiero in case anyone here is into those.
************************************************** ********
~Brand new 1.6:1 roller tip rockers: These are the ones from the Fiero Store. These have never been installed. They get $170 plus shipping. I'll take $150 shipped.
~Brand new performance valve spring set: Also never installed. This is the double spring set, also from the Fiero Store. They get $50 plus shipping. I'll take $50 shipped.
* Seat Pressure @ installed height - 105# @ 1.700
* Open pressure height - 296# @ 1.20
* Avg. spring rate - 382#/in
~My entire carb setup for the 2.8: Includes the Edelbrock lower intake, the 4 bbl upper intake, and the 80's Blazer distributor. These are all the main components you need to switch to a carburetor on your 2.8. Less than a thousand miles on the setup, except the carb, which I bought used. It'll need tuning for your application, but there's a wealth of info on the forum about doing that from myself, and others who have done the same change. Manifolds new are about $200 for the set, I'm guessing about the same for the carb (new). The distributor maybe 50 bucks from a junkyard. I'll include the modified thermostat housing in the deal. I'll take $350 for everything.
~The short block: I'll either part out or sell as a whole, depending on interest. I'm going to advertise it locally on Craigslist as well. Here's the rundown on the block:
85 manual transmission 2.8
Rebuilt about 8 years ago, only driven about a year. Has been started regularly over the years, even though it wasn't being driven. I started it last summer to pull the car into my garage. It started right up, and pulled great against my locked up brakes.
When it was rebuilt I had it completely gone over by a local machine shop. Bored the .040" over, boiled and cleaned, checked for cracks, new freeze plugs, new cam bearings, the works. If I remember I spent about 800 bucks on machine shop work alone. It has a Sealed Power HR-2190 cam. The profile of the cam doesn't seem all that radical, but it was the biggest cam I could find at the time, and it rocks. It has a really nice lopey idle at about 1,000 RPM, and just comes alive at around 4500-5000 RPMs. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I never ran it above that range because right at that point the valves would start to float. (That's why I bought the double spring set)
The specs on the cam: Lift is .443@288* on the intake, and .465@298* on exhaust at 1.5:1. 112 lobe centers. With the 1.6 rockers you would have about .472 / .496 lift.
The crank was ground and (I think) .010 over bearings installed)
It kills me to do it, as with all the parts I probably have a couple thousand in the short block alone, but, that's cars for ya. I'll take $400. That's for the entire short block, from oil pump to lifters. For obvious reasons, shipping isn't much of an option unless you want to arrange it and pay for it of course.
If the block doesn't sell I'll part it out if there's interest.
~Heads: Standard Fiero 2.8 heads have been ported and gasket matched. The shark-fin is intact, but has been smoothed and profiled a bit. They were magnafluxed and the valves ground and seated when the block work was done. $100 and shipping for the set.
~Ocelot Exhaust system: This is the same setup as the Fiero Store, part number 54403A. Just the exhaust without the tips. These are used, but barely. Very clean. They get $260 and shipping for that setup. $220 shipped from me.
Truleo headers: Not a lot to say about these. Used, but again, barely. Extremely clean, no cracks or damage. I'm not sure what these are worth as I couldn't find a price on them anywhere, but make me an offer and show me it's reasonable and we can discuss it, how's that?
On the subject of exhaust: I also have the stock exhaust minus cat. From the logs to GT tips. It's in OK shape, no rust-through that I know of. The logs did/do have some cracks, but can be easily repaired. They have been ported. Make me an offer on the whole exhaust system.
