  • WTB - Misc 3400 DOHC Parts

    All:

As some of you may know, I am debating swapping a DOHC motor in place of my 3100. Sooo....I need a couple of misc parts for this swap....

If anyone can help me out on any of this, I would appreciate it!

    Parts Needed:

    - Rear engine mount/bracket/bolts
    - Alternator mounting brackets/bolts/studs
    - P/S Hoses
    - Metal pipe(s) that goes between the firewall nipples and engine hoses for the heater

Any help in this area MUCHO appreciated!

why not just upgrade to a 3500 and have an engine that has atleast some aftermarket support?

i believe i have one engine mount and bracket but no bolts.. its the one that bolts with 2 bolts to the motor then bolts with 2 bolts to the tranny mount and the tanny mount wraps around the tranny with 4 bolts then goes to the rear rubber engine mount.. i got the P/S hoses too... i might have 1 alternator bracket but probably not the one you really need..

Hey Superdave...thanks for the suggestion. However, I already have a 3400 motor AND a 3400 DOHC version in my garage. I really couldn't care too much about aftermarket support, as a) I can build most of my own parts, and b)this is going into basically a commuter car. Heck, the 3100 that broke a cam recently, went 285K miles and I never had the valve covers off! Thank you Mobil1!

Besides, the 3500 is a turd (JK.....)

Robert.....check your private messages as I sent ya one! THANKS!!!

the DOHC engine is a 3.4 not a 3400 (3400 is only the pushrod variant)

Well, I suppose the terminology may be off, but last time I checked....3.4liters and 3400cc was the same thing. I always differentiate it by putting either DOHC in it (for the good motor), or OHV (for the turd)

My apologies for not getting the dielect correct

In any case....I am still looking for an alternator/bracket for this motor.....and the heater hose pipe thingy.

            THANKS!

what year engine? the alternators are 91-93 and 94-97. and the alternator bracket is built into the timing cover.

                Oops....

The engine is a 96/97 version, so I would need that alternator/bracket/duct. Actually, while part of the bracket is built into the cover, there are two brackets in the back that support it. One is an s-shaped rod, and the other one has two bolts that bolt to the block, and one to the back of the alternator. I need the whole setup....alternator, brackets, and duct....

                THANKS!!!

MAJOR props to 94GPGTP (Robert) who really came through for me with some parts. Little did I know, but he lives about 10-15miles from where I work VERY nice setup he has.....I am jealous of his garage space! THANK YOU!!!!

OK, so what I am still looking for is this:

                  - Alternator mounting bolts/spacers (96/97).
                  - AIR pump

Alternatively, does anyone know where I can get a tune on the PCM to kill the AIR and the rear O2? I'd rather ditch both of these if I could....it would clean up the engine a lot.

I have one other swap question......but I am going to put it in the swap section. Any comments on dropping a 3.4 DOHC in would be appreciated

if you have a 1996 Compter/engine you have to use Digital Horsepower (DHP) software. but a 1997 you can use HP Tuners. I hear DHP is going out of bus. Its what i used to tune my turbo setup. I would ask around ClubGP.com and see if anyone locally to you has the DHP they can help you with.

And how do I know if I have a 96 or a 97 computer? Aren't the engine's/wiring the same between the two years? If I *do* have a 96 computer/wiring, can I just drop a 97 computer in place of the 96? Do you have contact info on DHP???

The 96 and 97 transmission aren't the same. That's mainly the big difference.

I once had a 97 PCM in my 96 and it ran, but the transmissions eventually wouldn't want to shift into 3rd gear. And shift points couldn't be set.

What would you like to know about the DHP. I have one.

As far as what PCM you have, I'm sure there could be something on the codes on there that can tell them apart, but I'm not sure what. A tuner hooked to it can tell though.
