  • 3100 Pistons & Connecting Rod

    I need 2 pistons and connecting rods on them.. i pressed used rods on mine and they are on backwards and dont wanna risk breaking piston trying to turn the rods over.... its a pita.... lmk thanks

    What did you use to press them on? Proper tooling should be able to turn them around without damage. A machine shop might charge you like $10/ea.

      we used sockets to press on the pin... and used washers to support the rod, and used some square stock to support the piston..

        put them in the oven for 10 to 20 min and the pins may come back out easier. idk but just a thought.

          Not really. The aluminum expands faster than the steel and will cause more pressure on the pin itself - remember the pin is surrounded by aluminum.

          Cooling the pins or heating the rods make a faster press-on, but pressing off makes it difficlut since the metals are touching and transfer heat.
