  • 92GPSE 3100 stock/w/GT35R turbo?

I'm just curious georging here..Is the only weak spot in Gen2 3.1 the pistons?

OK, Let's say I replaced my orginal pistions with hyperutectic or forged Pistons and had it tuned with that just that setup. If I can run up to a 125 shot of nitrous, is that the same amount of max hp I could run with a GT35R with all the turbo nessecities, and still be in the saftey zone.

because I'm thinking this, If I can run a 125 shot of that much, I know a GT35R could push out those numbers, but it would be bad ass because I won't be the fat kid always asking for refills. catch my drift?

You guy's have way more in depth knowledge then I do on this so I'd appreciate any answer's or criticism whatever... just let me know if I'm cold or hot. I appreciated

GT35R setup/w/forged pistions (just my lil hp estimate)
    --------------

    120hp + 125= 245

    165tq + 125= 290

u know what... try it and see, thats really the olny way one could tell.. I know that for chevette 4cyl's can handle a 125 shot and they stay together.. its the rpm's that screws the bottomend.. Im assuming the same for 3.1 bottomends.. they seem pretty strong and built heavy, and its clamed that stock rods can handle 500 hp.. so if you could properly oil it Game on!!

The stock cast pistons will be more than adequate if you're only looking to gain 125hp. If you have the original motor in your '92, then it's referred to as the 3.1(MPFI), not a 3100. "3100" refers to the later year model engines(starting in 1994 for Grand Prix's). Your 3.1 makes 140hp/180 ft-lbs stock btw. Also, I would look into smaller turbochargers if you're only looking for 125hp....almost any small turbo that's suitable for a 3.1 can net you a 125hp gain w/ a few other modifications done.

        I just watched this......(nice!)

I was going to mention something about the GT28 but found a demonstration.
But beyond the pistons is everything else more than adequate too? What is your setup? (you live in Georgia!?)

The pistons/rods/crank, etc. are all pretty strong. The '89 Turbo Grand Prix in that video put down 300hp & 400 ft-lbs to the wheels using a GT2871R turbocharger. He was running 18psi and only spun the motor up to 4K or so due to running out of fuel, so the car will make more power at that same boost level once he's able to spin the engine higher. It's using a bone stock engine(stock heads, cam, intakes, etc.). He was trapping 109mph in the 1/4 mile on 12psi for what it's worth. That speed is plenty for a 12 second pass. On 18psi, it should be capable of low low 12's or better.

My 1990 Turbo GP is basically stock(modified catback exhaust, Topgun 160 chip, and a K&N filter)...and yeah, I live in Georgia...a few miles south of Athens.

Or run a Gt35R on 12 pounds and make the same amount of power as the 2871r does at 18. WHy push 18 psi when you can push 12 and make the same power?
