  • Turbo 3400 running on MegaSquirt

Well the project has been going for quite some time and the car is up and running very well. The turbo is a TD06 18g off a 92' GMC Typhoon, and so it the water to air intercooler setup. The engine is a 02' 3400 out of a Grand Am, and had 42k miles on the clock. I used the timing cover off the 2.8 that came out of the Fiero on the 3400 so I could use my stock alt, and a/c, it fit quite well (only the alt bracket needed major modification but not much). I also installed a whalbro 255 l/hr pump, spec stageIII clutch, high flow interecooler water pump, and innovative wide ban o2.

    Here is the car

Here is what it looks like some what clean

Here is a lower shot of the turbo

Here is a shot of the lower intercooler that is mounted up front

Here is the intake I made

Here are some of the gages I installed (sorry about the flash it was dark)

Here is how the MS looks mounted (once again sorry about the flash)

Nice! I envy you nice car. How much boost you running? How fast does it feel? Did you buy the megasquirt assembled? how much?

Taken it for a spin yet?

I built the unit my self, check out the link in my sig for how I installed it on my previous engine. I bought the unit for $250 from DIYAutoTune they also sell pre assembled units.

Right now I am only running 5psi of boost because I dont have my knock sensor hooked up yet (getting this done this weekend). Once that is up and working I will crank it up to around 10psi. With only 5psi of boost the car it much faster than it was stock, and once I feel I have a good tune setup I will have it dyno tuned to try and squeek out as much power as possible.

I bet it's really quiet without interference from a muffler or catalytic converter. I have run them both ways and it's a difficult decision. The muffler all but takes away the prescence of the little spinning terrrors hisss which with open exhaust can be easily heard off idle. Then the there is the tuned V6 purr from having the right muffler that leaves high revs and blow off valves to make the turbo prescence known.

The most distinctive exhaust note I have had was on a 2.8L with open exhaust on 1 3/4 inch pipe, it echoed I guess due to the high velocity. Sounded mean and turned heads.

I am actually running a cat, the car was so loud without anything I was worried about getting a ticket. The car still has alot of the turbo sound to it but that is because of the intake I ran. Also the car is still not quiet, it has a very mean growl to her, and with the blow off valve she gets plenty of attention.
