  • 3400 turbo I'm building.

Just thought I post a pic of a 3400 turbo I'm building for someone.

by the looks of the tranny, obviously a transmounted FWD, so how much firewall clearance are you going to have with that hairdryer, and how well do you think it will help prevent heat-soak with the charge pipe running back along the top of the exhaust crossover for what would seem to be a significant length?

Not mocking in any way, just curious.

Yes, it's a tad bit tight, but the closest thing is the strut tower brace, but that's easily taken care of.

The routing of the charge pipe will not be as close as you might think to the exhaust crossover, also heat sheilds will help with that.

Here is a mock up pic:

of course you're probably recommending harder engine mounts to prevent that snail from slapping the firewall with all the extra torque, that's a given. Next question is how about the air cleaner clearing the brake master cylinder?

Again, not downing anything, just questions.

Looking good so far though man

Personally, I'd cowl the hood and turn the air cleaner up to take in fresh cool air !

The tubing to the turbo will be a bit tight, but not bad, once it's all together it will be esier to see.

I'd use a cowl induction hood too, but the car has a flat hood and will stay that way. I am going to route the pipe around the brake master and point it towards the cowl area, after removing the ABS module, it leaves a hole in the cowl that I want to take advantage of.

          Thanks.

I will probably make a very similar rear header for my 'Bu, if the tranny doesn't give out on me before then, if it does, there will still be a hair dryer going on, just in a different location....muahahahaha.

in for more pics of the rear.

I haven't seen anyone go with the rear before. Interesting.

What size turbo is that? Or is that just for mock up purposes?

Yeah I haven't seen anyone else put the turbo there either.

The Turbo is a home made T3/4 hybrid, but will not be used on this car, for now it's just for mock up.

I'll post more pics in a bit.

                  1994 Cavalier.

I'm thinking about replicating the rear header though and using it on my 'Bu.

Raven, do me a favor and pm or email me some info on the best way to drop a 3400/4t45 into a 2000 cav 2.4/stick? There's a nice young lady in our car club that has a sharp looking cavy, but gets ragged on by the ricer boys all the time, and we want to help her out. Her engine is pretty much got too much hard mileage on it to be stable enough to boost as is, so we thought we'd just help her shut down the local imports.

Somebody perhaps make an affordable mount kit or anything?

best quick thing is throw the gm charger on it with alcohol injection and a 2.6" pully. itll make 6-8lbs boost and run mid 14s.

Well here are a couple more pics:

Rear header and DP, just finishing off the wastegate mounting and tubing, it's all a real tight fit.

And a front view mock up:

Damn, Raven, looks like you got the project well under way. I'm excited to see how it's going to turn out.

That's what we were trying to avoid. The engine she has is going to need a major rebuild cuz it's already on it's last leg, and it's not worth the expense IMO. The availability of 3400's around here are plentiful (wrecked Impalas with 3400/4t65's etc.), and she's gonna have to turn better than 14's around here to keep from being messed with, so we're probably going to duplicate my turbo build after we get the 3400 working initially.

I do however really appreciate the input sharkey, you've had really good input on alot of topics I've asked about

Raven - keep on rockin man....can't wait to see it.
