  • 3.1 Turbo GP Pistons

Are the pistons in a 1989-90 grand prix 3.1 turbo different from the naturally aspirated 3.1's pistons?? Also are the head gaskets different??

I am building a 3.1 turbo for my 85' S-10. I'm wanting to budget build it as much as I can, plus I'm only using a T-25 turbo and around 8-10 psi of boost. It will be intercooled and I was also thinking about using a methanol/water injection system and a CO2 intercooler spray bar. Also it will be carbureted most likely with a Demon blow-thru carb. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has anything to add from experience on the methanol/water injection or the intercooler spray bar please post!

    THANKS!!

with that low boost and small turbo i'd just keep the stock pistons, the tgp are suppose to be made stronger but theres alot of arguments.

Thanks, what about the head gaskets? Are the TGP's different?? I was considering copper, but is it going to be neccesary with low boost like that? I thought about checking with Fel-Pro to see if they made any of their "black" head gaskets for this engine. I also race dirt track and build SBC racing engines and those are the gaskets we use, very durable. This will be my first 60 degree V6 performance build. I have built a few stock ones but none for performance so I'm not sure what all aftermarket parts are out there. I figure Fel-Pro would make me some if I called them. (for a slightly phenominal fee no doubt!)

The TGP pistons are the same as the NA and a standard Fel-Pro replacement headgasket(part # 9471PT) for the 3.1 will work fine. Plenty of TGP owners out there running Fel-Pro replacement headgaskets and 11psi of boost from the little T-25.

anything over 10 tho would be pushing it, copper is something you don't really want for a d/d either.
