  • 3.1 m90

New here, but not new to cars. You might remember me from such sites as j-body.org, domesticcrew, and automotive forums. My name is civicslayr, but you can call me civic for short. I have 2 crx's, a 72' nova and friday i will be aquiring a 92 z-24 3 speed.

I have an m90 laying around, and plan on putting it on the 3.1. I'm not 100% sure but i think i will be the first to put an m90 roots style on a phase 2 cavi. I do my own machining and welding. But I have one question. Could I still use my stock throttle body or do you think it would be to much restriction?

52 mm could be restrictive so go with a larger unit. like a ford 65 or something or just use the tb that came on the M90? Why not do that?

I don't ever see this project getting completed though. calling it now.

I second all of that. Go with the throttle body that comes with the blower, thats what I did. The IAC on my Z26 and a 1997 GTP (where my blower came from) are the same (except for than angle that the harness connector faces). The TPS is the same style, so it was pretty easy to make an adapter plug, no splicing needed. Not sure about your setup, but you could probably do the same as me (just not sticking out of the hood for practicality, have a little more sense).

Mcgavinz26: You have the black berreta with a 3400 swap and an m90. Right? I don't have a motor swap it is the factory original z24 3.1 mpfi. Is the new throttle body plug-n-play, or is there some wiring involved? I won't be getting the cavi till friday night, possibly saturday. So i really can't look at the differences right now.

I was going to do it like you did yours, but i had a better idea. It's hard to explain, but i plan on cutting off the runners on the lower intake right before the head... mabey like 1 inch away from the flange. Then welding in the front and back of the intake with plate, then a big plate for the top. That would lower the blower 2-3 inches tops. I'm just worred about the fact that the blade opening is only like 6 inches long, and the intake is like 14 or so. Im scared that the middle cylenders will see more boost than the stray cylinders. Plus since i will practicly have no runner, I'm scared that I'll kill my tourqe.

Hey, whats the whine like on these. Annoying, or nice sounding?

Damit all to hell, i forgot about the injectors. Guess the way you did it is really the only way to mount it. How bad is driving it with the blower sticking out, vision wise.

Best advice would be to go to streetfire.net and look up videos for a T-bird supercoupe or a grand prix GTP. Personally, on my GTP i like the sound. It whines really loud. If you're cruisiing the bypass valve opens and it doesnt make any sound anyways. You'd never know it's on there.

They dont have much for the t-bird sc, so I grabbed one of a GTP dyno.

If you really wanna hear the sound, you'll wait. Hell, you can do other things while the video d/l's

Yeah, the narrow 60degree configuration isn't as blower on top friendly as the 90 degrees. The blower whine is awesome. If you don't like it you can probably quiet it down with some extra useless intake plumbing. They tend to get louder when you have them sticking out of a hood and a cone filter right infront of the intake on the throttle body. You can look at my page with the link on the 'www' button below. Don't put a blower sticking outside of your hood. Only poor people do that. We all know how bad poor people smell too.

Seriously though, a blower out of the hood only works if you have no problem only driving the car on nice days. I've had so many old school guys in random muscle cars start laughing, that alone was worth it. Then they usually say something like, "I remember we used to do that kinda stuff back in my day... I didn't know they had kits for this." Then I usually say something like, "Well, no one really makes a kit, I just have a low IQ." And then they laugh more.

Lmao. I love blower whine, so nope, not a problem. I was thinking of ordering the cowl from summit. It's not a hood, just a cowl. 6 inch probably. Meh, we'll see what happens as it rolls on. I get the car friday hopefully.
