  • Want to turbo: 3100 hybrid

Going to be building a 3100 MPFI project.. I would LOVE to turbo the thing.. (I have my 3100 stuff waiting for me to pay for it..) Are Twin turboes a possibility here? I want to be able to run with the 3.4 DOHCs, but still keep to the 3100.. It may not be cost effective.. I don;t care.. It is just something for an entusiast who's seen it all.. I want to do this.. I am not using the newer 3100 top end.. (Can;t find a suitable setup that I can afford out right..).. But.. Can these handle a single turbo (Or my dream of a twin turbo)?.. Maybe some NAWWWWWZ?.. lol.. Any info you guys can give would be awesome! Thanks!

RE: Want to turbo: 3100 hybrid

there is a guy with a 2nd gen j body, 3400 swap (stock engine) with a remote mount turbo setup running 10lbs boost with methanol injection running mid 12s. that gives you an idea of what stock gen 3 motors will do.

as for twin turbo, yea its possible, but why??? on a little motor like these a single turbo will work better and is a little more feasable. you could run nitrous with the turbo, but you gotta make sure your tuning is dead on. the only reason i would run nitrous with a turbo motor is if the turbo setup is at its limit and it just isnt quite fast enough. if the turbo has more, then just turn the boost up a little more.

RE: Want to turbo: 3100 hybrid

I was jk about the NAWWZ.. Anyway.. Single turbo then.. Hmm.. Where can I pilage one from? I dont know what the boost is like on the Early Chryslers, and what the TGPs 3.1 had escapes me.. Otherwise, to get the maximum power (Like I said, In want to run with the DOHC 3.4s.. Maybe BEAT the piss out of them).. What turbo am I looking at? Also, Methanol? How much, and is it worthwhile for my application?

RE: Want to turbo: 3100 hybrid

Stock TGP's had (according to the literature anyways) 7.5psi. My STE showed 6psi stock on my boost gauge, but all cars vary.

As was already said, twin turbo wouldn't be worth the cost/work in this application, I would just stick to a single. I don't know how easy it would be for you to get a complete TGP turbo setup but, aside from the way undersized turbo, it would eliminate basically all fabricating you would have to do. All I had to do was port the exhaust manifolds to match the 3100 heads, and get a different IC to TB pipe (I used a hose). Then you could upgrade the turbo as well later or at the time of the swap. However, if you are planning on upgrading the turbo when you do the swap you might as well just start from scratch and start welding up the exhaust for it. Even with the stock TGP turbo, my Turbo 3100 Hybrid runs pretty damn good.

RE: Want to turbo: 3100 hybrid

Sounds awesome.. I am going to be making a set of headers for it anyway.. So.. Where can I find myself a decent turbo? Matching or exceeeding that of the Turbo GPs? I am on a scant budget.. I will give ebay a shot.. Just lookin for other avenues..

if anything, look for a Super60 turbo. it MIGHT be just big enough for you. most of the t3's out there, are to small. it will boost of course, but on the top end, your turbo will be spinning way to fast for it to be efficiant.

the super60 might just be big enough for you.

but i personally would use a t3/t4 hybrid turbo. i know of someone that is selling a brand new one for a few hundred bucks. its the same size as the one i use.

Buy new, by the time you buy a used one and get it in good working order with balancing and stuff you might as well buy new.

Hmm, there will be a single turbo nitrous 3.2L hybrid coming out later this year, provided I get time to work on it.

In the future I plan on twins with more spray.

There are other reasons to use nitrous with turbo than "being at the limits of the turbo"
