  • Phenolic spacers + centrifugal blower?

Sound like a good idea to make some between the UIM & LIM?

I have 3/8" thick phenolic here, and was wondering if I should even bother to cut it out.

Do these things show gains on boosted applications at all? I searched quite a bit and found nothing on the subject.

I guess in thoery they should still work a little bit...? Might also depend on how cool I can get my intake air. I have a 30 X 6 X 2.5 cooler...

    Discuss.

RE: Phenolic spacers + centrifugal blower?

Basically those spacers increase runner length, right? I've read for boosted applications where the boost comes in later in the powerband (turbos of a decent size and centrifugal blowers) it's good to have longer runners to promote natural low end torque from the engine then use the turbo or blower to overcome the plenum design on the top end.

RE: Phenolic spacers + centrifugal blower?

The 3/8" change in runner length won't be noticable. I tried 1" aluminum spacers with no noticable gains. For the SC it might be slightly different, but again, I doubt 3/8" would matter. But, as far as heat isolation goes, I think it could be beneficial. I have a CAD file for the spacer that I sent to a guy over on GAGT.com for him to make some up. We'll see how it all pans out...

I wasnt really thinking about runner lenth.

I was thinking more about heat isolation.

Here's my thoery. On an N/A application, the intake air is ambient, so the difference between ambient and the engine will be pretty big. But, boosted, this difference in temps is much smaller...

Are you running a carb? No? Waste of time/money then.

More temperature difference means more heat transfer, so the boosted application would need the heat isolation less.

Anyone wanna buy a 3/8" piece of Phenolic? Enough to make 1 1/2 sets.

If it's for heat purposes I vote for getting an intercooler first.

im looking for some spacers, but i dont know if 3/8" is thick enough.

i pm'd brad about his, but no response yet.

but if he doesnt have his 1" thick ones, then i would consider yours.

are they already cut? and where did you get the material? i might be intersted in just buying a 1" thick piece.

                  thanks.

by the way, this is not for HP, but for clearance of a few add on's

                    I just have a sheet of the stuff. It's about i dunno 48" X 2.5" X 3/8".

I got mine from Macmaster Carr, I think it's called G10 ..? or 11. Not sure, I do know that when I bought the stuff, I searched and made sure I bought the right thing.

I am not quite sure if I want to get rid of it anymore, might take a bit of convincing ($).

I have the material, spare gaskets and the tools to cut it, so, at this point I am just gotta put in a bit of time and get them done.

Well, glad to see the site is acting wierd again. Germ, I've actually written you 2 PMs, but they are (for some odd reason) in limbo in my PM outbox. Have no clue why they haven't sent. So I'll just answer you here...

The spacers I have are for the older 3100 design, and since I'm pretty sure you still have a 3400, they aren't going to work.
